160 Driving Academy of San Diego

"Oceanside Yard. 160 Driving Academy, an interesting name for a hurry up and wait crash course school. Everything is rush rush rush. Hardly anytime to learn anything casually or naturally. This so called Academy can't even fix unoperational trucks. The school will tell you go ahead and sit in this broken truck and practice your air breaks test. Or even better go into another different broken truck that does not even turn on and do some imaginary practices for air breaks testing. Meanwhile we're playing musical broken trucks. Then they are logging your in school hours as TOTALLY productive time... All of a sudden your hours are up and you havent even done one single ligit test in an operational vehicle. So much time waisted sitting in a driving yard for 8 hours a day only to practice 5 times for 10 minutes a turn. In addition to that, driving instructors will be sent home if they are deemed extra if they say there are not enough students. So you end up sitting doing nothing WITHOUT an instructor to help teach you when it's down time, because they want to save overhead dollars.. Pfffffff .... My entire first week they didn't even let us touch a truck. All we did was practice 8 hours of pre trip 5 days that week on broken trucks. I could easily expand more on several other things that corporate admin keep the school disabled on. Aside from having 5 broken trucks in a single yard for over 3 months with only 7 trucks total. Then the only truck you want to do real practice on is unavailable getting tested on at the DMV and the other truck that runs is also over occupied with a long line of people waiting to do skills on it. The only reasons I was able to get through this nightmare was because of Juan the yard master he's fabulous ! Erica the best manager in trucking ever ! With Daniel the greatest motivational speaker and educator ! Winton a skills guidance specialist instructor ! Richard giving the logical break downs in tractor movement ! and Jamie keeping the school up with test passing data to achieve your license ! End result I got my license by the skin of my teeth and super dedication."

"Offering a 5 week Class A CDL program. Week 1 is in the classroom, taught by a former truck driver 25 years + in the business. Week 2, you take the written test and get your learner's permit. Weeks 3,4, and 5, you are out in the range getting your skills and driving ready so you are proficient for your DMV Test. They have automatic and manual trucks. On the day of your test, they meet you at the DMV with the truck and are there to give you support. It's the best feeling to celebrate your hard work paying off once you pass and become a licensed commercial driver! $5K all in and you have your CDL."

"Oceanside yard. Awesome school, friendly coordinators, great teachers, knowledgeable senior students. Every teacher has their own style of teaching, so I recommend gravitating towards the one that matches your style. Senior students are one of the greatest resources for information, everyone builds upon everyone else. If one thinks the know everything, they will likely fail on the final CDL tests, so keep the mind open. I'll definitely be recommending this school to any friends that are trying to get their CDL."

"This place was just terrible. I don't know how they were able to get my last review deleted but here it is again. Do NOT go here, you really will be disappointed and out five grand. And you'll most likely fail at DMV and they just don't care. Ten to twenty minutes of skills time per day, I could go on ad infinitum on reasons not to go to this school, but I'll let the bias five star review left by a branch manager who gets fat commissions booking students and the two one star reviews speak for themselves"
