"I took basic keelboat at Delta Sailing School. I was originally scheduled to take it right when the covid restrictions were out into place. DSS restructured their classes and (at least for my class) reduced the class size to two and made it a 3 day course instead of four. I think the class length and size ended up being perfect! I had a great partner to work with and we clicked really well. Wendy was my instructor. She was a fountain of experience, knowledge, wisdom, and more importantly patience! She allowed us to make and learn from mistakes while making sure we didn't put ourselves in danger. The class was usually indoors for the morning, then out on the water after lunch. We got a ton of time on the tiller with plenty of time to practice our maneuvers. The sailing area is in the San Joaquin river. There is ample room to sail, but you do end up taking or jibbing about every 5 minutes or so. With how physical it is I think we got the perfect amount of time on the water. DSS was a fantastic place to learn. I ended up joining their sailing club and am looking forward to lots of practice before taking my next ASA class with them!"
