"I have bought six high end bikes over the past 30 years, and the experience of buying a bike from Jake at the Stanford Research Park location was by far the best. This location is not really intended to be a sales location. It's really a repair shop and it's just one fairly small room. It has the feel of a classic local bike shop, but updated to the modern era (and without the snobbery), yet with access to all the inventory and supply leverage of the Mike's Bikes chain. They don't have any new bikes on premises, but if you know what you want to try, if you give them a few days, they can have it brought in and ready to go. This is also a much better location from which to take a test ride, as it's right near Foothill and there are a few short but decent (~5% grade) segments nearby, as well as some nice uninterrupted flat stretches. You can take a bike out for 15 mins and get a very good feel for it - well, as good as possible in 15 minutes. (The Palo Alto location of Mike's Bikes, in contrast, is in a terrible location for a test ride as there are no safe streets nearby.) The real advantage of getting your bike here is that Jake and his crew are not salespeople - they're top notch mechanics who know what they're talking about, and if they don't know something, they'll say so and not make something up and research the answer and get back to you. (At the other high end bike shops in Palo Alto that I visited, the salespeople were spouting nonsense.) Jake got my bike set up quickly and patiently answered all my questions, despite the shop's being busy. And equally importantly he didn't laugh or condescend when I said something stupid. The whole experience from initial phone call to walking out the door with a new bike at the end was truly top notch. If you know the specific model or two of bikes you're looking at, and if Mike's Bikes carries them, then I would definitely and most highly recommend calling Jake and using this location to buy your bike. (Note, however, that this location is not open on weekends.)"

"Best bike shop experience! I'm a newbie to cycling, and took my 2 year old bike to make sure it's good for more riding. The mechanic is super knowledgeable, and went above and beyond tightening my headset, and even adjusted my seat angle (which I haven't noticed before). They also gave me great advice on how to train and get stronger as a cyclist, and I really appreciate their wealth of knowledge and experience. Although Mike's Bike is a chain, this store makes me feel like a local family shop. Thank you to the staff for being so awesome!"

"I got a new bike just recently and during my second trail ride I noticed that gear shifting was a bit off and front rotor was slightly bended. The team fixed everything that was highlighted in the service request. They also explained why that happened and what to expect from a new bike in the upcoming weeks/months. Besides that they were very nice to talk to and I was very impressed with the experience. Highly recommend!"
