"We have lived here for 2 months. Theres so many things wrong with this place: everything they charge you for, they will charge you too much and they will charge you for EVERYTHING (even if its illegal for them to do so). Over a grand a month for a (not great) two bedroom unit (not including electric or water or heat). A $300 pet deposit (plus pet rent every month). Its $4.00 to do ONE wash of laundry which is in the middle of the basement with only a handful of washers and dryers for the ENTIRE FOUR FLOOR BUILDING. Illegal charge example: we have a Frigidaire oven that has a well-known defect where the handle falls off, causing the whole oven door to fall apart, which then makes the oven unusable. Within the first month that we lived here, the handle broke twice. Not only did it take them over a week to fix it, but we had to ATTEMPT to contact them multiple times to do it. THEN they had the audacity to attempt to charge us for it BOTH TIMES. Very illegal. The Minnesota law for charging tenants for damage: Landlords cannot charge tenants unless they can prove the break was intentional, or was being misused. Each unit has the sterotypical set of hard plastic blinds on each window that constantly break and fall off even if you're being gentle with them (I've had these at every apartment I've been to) and she tried to charge us for that too (even though I've never been charged for them at other places)! There's only ONE AC unit in the apartment and its inside of a personal bedroom, so the rest of the apartment and the other bedroom is ALWAYS HOT. ALWAYS. Even with the windows open its excruciatingly hot. Not to mention, all of our windows are warped, so theres space between the screen and the frame where bugs are CONSTANTLY climbing through. Its disgusting. This also doesn't include the giant wasps nest under the front deck that has clearly been here since last summer. And that nest unfortunately is only a few feet away from our apartment windows (and many other windows from other units). The wasps are constantly getting inside our unit through the messed-up windows and trying to build nests inside our apartment. We have had to remove 2 nests since moving in. The ONLY mail box key for our unit was given to someone who was not responsible and they lost it. Our landlord did not bother to make a copy of it before handing it over to them. This in turn forced us to spend weeks (three if you wanna count) asking them to change our mail box and them repeatedly stating they would "do so then call us to get the keys" (which never happened). Eventually we confronted our landlord in person who tried to say we had never asked her to fix it. It took her another week to fix it, we were promised 3 mail box keys (because there are three tenants in the unit plus a child) and once we recieved the keys there were only two and only one works. We emailed her about it the fact that she promised us three but we only got two, and she (again) changed her story and stated each unit only gets two keys. We responded to that stating that one of the keys did not work, so she only gave us one working key after promising us three. Its been well over a week since we sent that email addressing the broken key and we still have not received a response despite the fact that we were promised responses if we email her. The landlords make plans for renovations on upper level units then don't bother to tell any tenant of any unit that there construction going on from 7AM to 5PM EVERYDAY for a week (even if the construction is right above them). I was recovering from surgery that week, and honestly? It was hell. Had I known they were going to make an ungodly amount of noise, I would have stayed with my parents that week for a better recovery. I ended up having to take more time to recover, as my body was under unnecessary stress from the lack of sleep/rest from all the noise. Youre not allowed to call the police unless theres a fire or someone needs an ambulance. There's so much more but I've exceeded the character limit now. So just don't live here."
