Reviews of Kenwood Village
"Visited sports bar in multi-use complex. Good food. Parking arrangement, in which apartment residents have assigned spaces on lower levels, with commercial spots up higher."
"Went there for lunch. Sat out on the patio in the shade. It was very nice but a lot of traffic noise. Burger was good though. Service was excellent."
"I have lived at Kenwood Village for just over three years and over the past three months, lots of issues have occurred. Our vehicles and the indoor heated garage have been broken into on numerous occasions. Peoples’ belongings have been stolen. The key fab and phone system that allows individuals to enter the heated garage have been pried open with a screwdriver in an attempt to break in. A car was just stolen from the garage today. Lastly, some individuals were caught trying to steal catalytic converters from vehicles as well. For the past three months, I have not felt safe at Kenwood Village. I have notified ShipRock staff and others have contacted the authorities, but nothing seems to be done. As of right now, I would not recommend living here. I’m fortunate I will be moving in a few short months."
"I lived here for three years and it had both its negatives and positives. I will start with the pros: 1) Parking was great! 2) the area is pretty great. Close to the grocery store, the crooked pint was super yummy, close to downtown and Hermantown. If you have a dog plenty of places to walk with your dog so HUGE plus. 3) Mike is fantastic and was always there to help right away. He was always ready to go the extra mile. 4) The walls between the units must be built well because I never heard a peep from a neighbor. It felt like they were always on vacation. Even if you live in an apartment on a lower level you could hardly hear people walking, showering, etc. Cons: 1) The actual leasing office is never open. Seems like Mike is the only one ever at the property 2) Packages do get stolen because they are left in an area that is available to the public. They should fix that (perhaps they have-its been six months since I lived there) 3) THE SNOWPLOW. During the winter months when it snows (and its Duluth so it's always snowing) the snowplow comes very late at night to the crooked pint parking lot and takes hours to clear the snow. So basically it comes around 11 pm and sometimes doesn't leave till 4 am. Its like trying to sleep through a construction project. Ear plugs did help the situation. So if you are a light sleeper try to get an apartment that doesn't face the crooked pint lot. I had a buddy who broke his lease because he could never get to sleep. 4) People need to learn to pick up after their dog. There was poop lying around outside everywhere in the winter. It was gross. 5) The fire alarms suck. If you cook a lot you can hardly use the oven. You can forget about roasting fatter cuts of meat and charring veggies. 6) When I was moving out I didn't appreciate how Shiprock handled my situation during the pandemic. They let strangers come into my unit while I was living there to tour. There was one time when they scheduled a tour without my consent 12 hours before it was happening with no time/day choices. I had to cancel a very important appointment with the doctor, as I have a dog at home that cant be left alone with strangers and other arrangements could not be made for him with such little notice. I tried to call shiprock to explain that I had an appointment the next day that I really couldn't miss and they got incredibly nasty. It was a very inhumane experience. I did end up talking to Mike and he smoothed over the entire situation. Hope they give that man a big raise because he is great!"
"These apartments seemed nice at first glance. However, they are poorly maintained. There are uncleaned dog urine stains from over 6 months ago in most hallways (ask to go down to the street level -1 floor during your tour if you want to get a feel for the place - those spots aren’t from someone spilling a drink, are uncleaned, and have been there for months) and there is dog poop EVERYWHERE. Both outside and (sometimes) inside. Including sidewalks and hallways on a regular basis. Speaking of the -1 floor, there has been (what I assume as) a security alarm going off for approximately 2 weeks that the owners have failed to deal with, resulting in a constant high pitched screeching, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. During the winter, their snow plowing service comes at 1am, and takes about 3 hours to plow a small parking lot, even if we get a small dusting (multiple times a week in northern Minnesota). They are so loud that my girlfriend dreads snowfall, and has to sleep in the closet with her ears covered during nights where snow is likely. Imagine a full scale construction project going on outside from 1am to 4am every time there is a hint of snow from October to April. This apartment will likely be extremely rundown in a couple years, and is very expensive for the amenities and services they offer, especially given their lack of upkeep. You’re much better off going to Bluestone or Endi. Upkeep is better, amenities are far superior, and the rent prices are comparable or superior."
