Center of the World

Located in Felicity, California, the Center of the World is a unique tourist attraction dedicated to engraving human history in stone. With 20 monuments, over 700 professionally-engraved panels, and more than 1,000 illustrations hand-etched in granite, this museum is the only one of its kind on the planet. Each granite panel features lucid yet scholarly text designed to last for millennia, preserving the History of Humanity in Granite for generations to come.

To visit the Center of the World, simply take Interstate 8 to exit 164 and head north on the frontage road, Center of the World Drive, until you reach Center of the World Plaza. The museum aims to encourage further research and knowledge by summarizing vast events of human history in a visually stunning and enduring way.

The museum was founded by Jacques André Istel, a man who has lived an unusual life and transformed a barren landscape into a magnificent destination. Visitors can explore the museum grounds to view some concepts in 3D and marvel at the fine art of hand-etched granite engravings.

The History of Humanity in Granite is a monumental undertaking that requires professionals of the highest caliber, such as renowned engraver Ron Clamp and lead artist Shelly Evans. The museum exists so that future generations, even those far from Earth, can appreciate and understand our collective history with affection.

Come and experience the grandeur of human history etched in stone at the Center of the World in Felicity, California.

"Not worth the entrance fee of $10. Compared to other museums, It felt like a makeshift of things put together just to make it seem official. There was a lot of information about the history of CA/AZ/Animals/religion and others but it doesn't scream on why it's considered the 'Center Of The World' vibes. It wasn't worth the hype. I wouldn't recommend going however, if you have some spare time to spend, then you can come here until you have something else to do. 3 out of 5 stars for the information that it had as you can see with the pictures that is attached to this review"

"It was cool, inexpensive, the illustrations in granite are very impressive and so is the collective history of humanity. I love the idea, but please note this is NOT the center of the world! It was ratified by the government of Imperial County, CA, based on a children’s book. Not sure why the French government decided to back them up, but the actual center of the world (as calculated as the center of landmasses on earth) is in 39°00′N 34°00′E, in modern-day Turkey, near the district of Kırşehir, Seyfe Village approx. 1,800 km north of Giza. Also, the slab on evolution uses an outdated illustration, and has a hilarious typo along the lines of “how many times have I told you to stoop…”"

"A must visit place if you are interested in learning / refreshing history and knowledge around humanity. A lot of them would be something you know already from learning from school and books; however, it was still nice to read and fill in some knowledge you might have missed. The writing is reasonably non partisan, non religious and based on facts. So as an atheist, I appreciated it. The staff are amazingly kind and friendly. Will definitely come back here every year to see the progress they make with more engravings on empty panels. P.S. for your entertainment, read 1 star reviews written by some fanatics. It’s hilarious."

"I have been on guided tours, but our host, "Al", went above and beyond any expectations. She made this visit so pleasantly memorable. We were greeted with such warmth and enthusiasm to actually see The Center of the World."
