"Extremely shady and fraudulent management. Had their henchmen, the debt collectors come after me 1 year after moving out for $250, despite having written confirmation that all dues were paid. The building itself is in a sketchy part of the city, and is surrounded by filth and homeless encampments. It is common for packages to be stolen and the building has done nothing about it."
"[UPDATE]- not sending back our security deposit! Definitely, proceed with caution. Problems include: Laundry frequently breaking in our apartment (went one month without a working washer), amenities pricing being super high (~$126 per person per month for sewer/water/gas not including electricity and wifi), and still waiting to get our security deposit back six months after moving out (after sending many emails and calling their leasing office). Also, it's marketed as Hayes Valley, but is effectively in civic center."
"Really nice wall of windows in living room, LG washer & dryer and a convection oven. I am not even sure I have neighbors upstairs since I hear no noise from other units. Two grocery stores 2 blocks away and I can walk to work. Who can complain!!"
"Living at Venn was by far my worst apartment living experience. If you want to know what it's like living in an apartment building managed by Greystar, I recommend checking out the ProPublica article. That article rings true for Venn, and even more so when the manager and assistant manager changed in 2023. I needed to send several emails and threaten to sue in small claims court before they returned my security deposit, months after the legal limit in California. During the heavy rains in 2023, our apartment flooded and got mold. They took several weeks before they properly cleaned the apartment. Despite our apartment being unlivable for close to two weeks during the cleaning/maintenance, they didn't provide any compensation or accomodations. Unbelievably, a month after the cleaning, the manager Tamara even threatened that Venn would stick us with the bill. These were the two most egregious episodes with Venn, but overall management was unresponsive and difficult to track down for any issue, just as described in the Propublica article. Thankfully California has strong tenant protections and the SF Tenants Union is a great resource for dealing with landlords like Venn/Greystar, but what a pain it was living there. Hopefully my experience can help others dodge a bullet."
"BEWARE — I scheduled a tour weeks in advance, got a confirmation email the day before, and the leasing agent wasn’t even there to let us in the building. Unacceptable — don’t waste your time. We waited thirty minutes and walked in with a resident. Turns out they don’t even have a leasing office. The building is definitely not a luxury building / what you’d expect of a managed building."
