"UPDATE: I altered my previous review to five stars. The initial review raised concerns about the front desk clerks. Soon afterwards, the front desk clerk Denise reached out to me, and we had a lengthy discussion regarding my concerns and how she could help resolve them. Each and every concern I had was resolved. This was actually a very kind gesture. I realize that the mission of Berkeley Community Physical Therapy is to provide very effective, quality PT services to many of those who do not have the means to go elsewhere. And, yes! the physical therapists are amazing! I can't believe! that this didn't hit me earlier. I mean, where else am I able to get top notch PT for a broken fibula? Hello! So, of course, the front desk clerks cannot immediately return some of the phone calls. They are overwhelmed with the phone calls, faxes, emails, all requesting appointments to get into the clinic. And, the place is booked solid, sometimes for months. Man, let's just give the clinic some grace. They're good people."
"Beware of this company. I was referred by my insurance which is Alameda Alliance / Medical and I called to make an appnt. I live in Oakland. I was told by the receptionist that that because I live in Oakland and because I have medical I am a high rate for NO SHOW and they will not make an appnt with me. I’m sorry that’s discrimination! I told her that I felt that was discriminatory and I show up for my appnts and could I speak to the manager. The manager called me back after a couple days of my following up. I explained to her that because of my work schedule I needed a PT close to me not the only other one way out in Fremont and that I always make my appnts. She finally agreed and I practically begged her. She went ON AND ON about their very strict cancellation policy. Ok. I get it!. I waited weeks for my first appnt which is tomorrow. She called me just now to tell me the PT was sick and they needed to reschedule. She was spicy on the phone the whole time we were trying to find a day to reschedule and all over the place. We finally decided on a date and I asked ok great is it this hard every week to book out and she said sorry people with your insurance can’t book out because they are high no shows! I got MAD! This is disrespect and discrimination. Turns out you can book out after your first appnt but becuae I called her out on the discrimination she said I’m not welcome to come there. CRAZY. Not normal. She is the manager and refused to tell me her name so I could make a complaint with my insurance. They never wanted me there in the first place and made me feel like a real bother through the whole process. What a shame in our area and in this day and age we have to deal with people like this. Guess what? When people get discriminated against they get mad."
"When a "health" "care" team is limited by the team answering the phones, our health isn't actually being cared for. They do not answer phones. They do not call back, over 2 weeks and multiple messages. I get that the holidays... If you're that backed up, you need to hire more people. It's that simple. That you cannot answer the phones promptly, that you gaslight clients and intimate it's not your fault, continously. This is a problem and shows a lack of efficacy. I've called my Healthcare provider, made a complaint, and am making a new appointment, elsewhere. I have no idea how good their team is besides those answering the phone. You can't get past the people answering the phone; they don't do their job."
"Were it not for Berkeley Community Physical Therapy (BCPT), I'm afraid to think of where I'd be or, more precisely, HOW I'd be -- namely, nearly crippled with pain and restricted range of motion. I've been receiving treatment there for the past two years -- firstly, for tendinitis on my left side (which I posted about a year ago) and, more recently, two pinched nerves on my right side. In the first case, I wasn't able to get a proper diagnosis, much less appropriate treatment, until I was examined by Negeene, BCPT's exceptionally skilled and deeply caring owner. Since then, I've been blessed to be treated by two of her highly adept and equally attentive associates: Hunter and Leslie. Not only have their expert treatments returned me to health, but, just as importantly, they provided me with advice, demonstrations (which I was advised to videotape) and handouts that help me to MAINTAIN it. Others patients and would-be patients have complained about their calls not being answered or returned. They have my sincere sympathies. However, that has NOT been my experience. Instead, all of my appointments are made with dispatch and I always receive follow-up calls and texts reminding me of my next one. Finally, I'm deeply appreciate that BCPT is so sensitive to African Americans like myself, whose illnesses, as studies have proved, are often downplayed, poorly treated or outright ignored due to implicit bias, which, tragically, produces a two-tiered healthcare system. I have NEVER been to a health clinic, of any kind, which is more devoted to treating EVERYONE. So BCPT has my HIGHEST recommendation and my deepest THANX."
