"Enjoyed the short but informative tour by the docent. End of Sumner or early fall great time to see the begonias."
"Beautiful gardens with informative docent lead tour of the grounds outside of Chapman House."
"Visited this location close to sunset on our way back to Pismo from the Hearst Castle. The grounds are very interesting and beautiful. The entire visit lasted about one hour and cost $20 for two adults, kids are free. I look forward to being able to see the inside of the house in the future, once the city and historical foundation get it ready!"
"We love visiting older homes with an interesting history. This was recommended to us by Darius in the visitor center on the Pismo Beach pier. It has limited hours and he recommended the Friday evening time. There is only street parking, but it is right in front of the estate. The modest admission is $5 or $10 for a guided docent tour. We opted for the docent tour because it allowed us access to areas the other tour didn't. It was not crowded and Toni was our guide for just the 2 of us. She told us the history of the estate, which included only 2 different owners, and had a notebook of additional pictures and information. The estate is built on 11 lots that were purchased for $10 total (not each)! The garden was like a Botanical garden with plaques describing the different plants. There were so many varieties of beautiful dinner plate dahlias. The Begonia Garden was amazing with so many varieties of begonias I have never seen. There were two gentlemen playing relaxing music that added to the tranquill atmosphere. The windmill was originally used to heat the pool through a fascinating process. The lighthouse tower was built to block the view of the house next door and also to provide privacy. Most of the outside work is done by dedicated volunteers. We were only able to view part of the house through the windows. The house was left to the city by the last owner and they are in the process of restoring it with needed repairs. They hope to have it completed by next year. We will definitely come back then."
"The grounds are beautiful. Can't wait until you can tour the inside. Well worth the $10 tour."
