Reviews of Best Western Inn & Suites San Diego – Zoo/Seaworld Area
"The first room we got smelled so badly of weed we had to switch rooms. They were great about it but I also heard other people complaining about the smell in their rooms. Clearly they have a problem with people smoking in there and don't properly clean it. Other than the smell of the first room the rooms were clean and lovely. The breakfast was super busy, the waffles are good but that's about it. The sausages were inedible."
"Beware, bedbugs... and they are doing nothing to treat it... I came into town and stayed at this hotel prior to my friend's surprise party. I checked in, left for a few hours, and came back around 7:30pm to climb in bed and read. I woke up the next morning with bug bites, consistent in size, cluster pattern, etc. as bed bugs. There were also little spots of blood on my sheets. I contacted the front desk and they sent a maintenance man up who asked me to show him the "animals." I explained that I had bug bites, showed him the ones at my waist, and he searched the bed. He did not see bedbugs and told me they would look into getting me another room. I packed my belongings, did research on how to minimize the risk of bringing bedbugs home with me, and proceeded downstairs to check out. I was not sticking around a hotel with an infestation and I could not go to my friend's house as I did not want to potentially contaminate her home. I ended my 5 day trip less than 24 hours after it started. While waking up with bites, fearing bringing an infestation home with me, and missing the opportunity to see my friends was bad enough, the front desk staff was absolutely horrific. I was told they did not see any bed bugs and, therefore, I was lying. There was no customer service, there was no apology, they would not be doing anything to treat the room, nor would they refund me, since they saw no bedbugs. The staff immediately went on the defensive and tried to cover everything up, rather than providing any customer service. I would highly recommend avoiding this hotel as they do have bugs that bite, they refuse to treat the room, and I was treated like the enemy when all I wanted to do was be refunded for the night I spent getting bitten and leave. I never got a refund for the night I slept there, which I am no longer upset about - I am too busy researching bedbug detection/prevention/etc. in every spare moment I've had since I have been back."
"The service was interesting. Some staff are so friendly but others are abrupt or just don’t make any eye contact as they grumpily walk by or clean things. I’m not saying they need to make my day, but sometimes I’d like to say thank you. The rooms we had were different but each had very odd layouts. The bunk beds were nice with the sliding doors. The other room has a bathroom door that opened 3/4 of the way and then stopped against a bed. The pillows suck and the doors don’t block out any noise. Anyone walking and talking down the hall sounds like they are in your room. The kids enjoyed the pool and hot tub but mentioned everything felt slimy in the hot tub. They would slip on the benches. I felt it myself and I agree! I did not stay in long. The location was great. We went to museums and the zoo without long commutes. Be careful in the rain, the tiles of the sidewalk get slippery. We saw a man fall and crack his head open."
"Stayed on New Year’s Eve, booking from Priceline after a day at Sea World. The desk was open until 2am for late check in which was convenient. We really just stayed the night and didn’t use any amenities but there is a pool and it was heated. The hotel is large and tucked away on Hotel Circle in Mission Valley so while it is not in a great walking location there is plenty of places to go close by driving. There was no EV parking so had to take a quick trip to Fashion Valley Mall to top off before bed so we could head out in the morning. Staff was great and good at describing how to get around because it could have been confusing. The room was comfortable 2 queens and a pull out couch that fit the 6 of us comfortably. We did take advantage of the included breakfast in the morning. It was packed and hard to find seating. The offerings were great and a nice way to start your day. Would definitely stay again in the same type situation looking for just a room for the night and a place to eat in the morning."
"Overall great experience. Rooms were clean. Checking in and out was easy. Hotel staff were all very nice. Upon check in they gave us a bag for sea world as well as little Dolphin stuffed animals and a discounted rate on parking. Only downfalls are that you can hear the highway from your hotel room if on that side and it's pretty loud and the air fresheners outside in the hallway was extremely strong on the 3rd floor, one of our outlets didn't work and our bathroom fan. Minor things for us, but to some it may matter. We were able to check in early and the continental breakfast was very good. Would recommend staying here again."
