Carpinteria State Beach
About the Business
Carpinteria State Beach, located at 205 Palm Avenue in Carpinteria, California, is a campground, lodging, and park offering a range of outdoor activities for visitors. Dogs are allowed in the campground and day-use area, but not on the beach. Visitors can camp for a maximum of seven consecutive days from March 1 through November 30, and for fifteen consecutive days from December 1 through February 28, with a total of 30 days allowed in any calendar year.
The park is situated near Santa Barbara and Ventura, providing a beautiful coastal setting for swimming, surf fishing, tidepool exploring, and camping. The area has a rich biological and cultural history, with Spanish explorer Gaspar de Portola encountering the Chumash people in the area in 1769. The park also features the Carpinteria tar pits, which have produced fossils such as the Ground Sloth and Saber-toothed Cat.
Educators can bring their classes to explore the tide pools and participate in service-learning projects. Volunteers are also welcome to help with education programs at the park. Children can enjoy the Tomol Interpretive Play Area, which allows them to learn about California's history while playing outdoors.

"I really enjoy this beach, it’s not crowded, you get a beautiful view of the coastline, you get to see seals, great to walk out your dog or escape with your family."
"The old white lady at the pay booth is rude just because I pull up in a nice car doesn’t mean I need your attitude Karen! Telling me can I help you? Yeah you can Karen get back there and do your job!"
"Carpinteria is a amazing little beach town and the campground is really nice they have a camp restrooms and showers and the campground is right next to the beach!! every morning I took a walk on the beach and it was the best. Also i say a beautiful sunset!!"
"Laid back !!! This place is a definition of a beautiful sleepy California beach town. If you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of the big touristy beach towns, stay here. It’s got some good mom and pop restaurants and a small shopping plaza for your basic needs, some hotels and inns and even a brewery. Due to the severe high waves weather advisory, we didn’t stay long, but we still enjoyed the morning walk on the beach."
"This is a family-friendly beach with miles of sand and surf. Plenty of space for all. Clean with some kelp here and there, oh and expect to come away with some tar on your feet. Offshore drilling is not far off in the distance. They have swimming docks away from shore you can swim to, which is nice, and where you might catch a better glimpse of the dolphins, seals, and pelicans that frequently pass by. Park on one of the many streets leading to the beach or in the parking lot that has an all-day fee."
