Tamarind Indian Cuisine

"Tamarind is much better than your average Indian restaurant. You can tell they have honed their recipes as the dishes are not overwhelmingly flavored or spicy but rather balanced and complex. Their chutneys are delicious and the price is right, given quality, quantity, and ambiance."

"I live in the area and did not know of this restaurant and the location. I was looking forward to trying this restaurant and wowed when I walked into a beautiful restaurant. Tables with nice table linens, nice lighting, beautiful Indian art, etc. A majority of Indian restaurants that I've been to lack atmosphere. I ordered vegetable byrani, mixed pakora, and chicken naan for lunch. The pakora was a patty of potato, onion, chickpea flour, and spices and fried to be perfectly crisp. I felt they were different from pakora that I've had elsewhere, which I prefer another restaurants' pakora. The tamarind sauce and mint chutney were fantastic, and i am guessing freshly made. The vegetable byrani was amazing with chunks of carrots, potato, cauliflower, etc. The veggies had good texture of cooked but not soft and seasoned prior to being added to the rice dish. The raita at Tamarind was delicious, and I've had raita at other restaurants that were watered down and little taste. The chicken naan was not a favorite as the ground chicken in between lacked flavor beyond tasting bread. The kulfi ice cream is good. I would try Tamarind again!"

"We finally decided to try this restaurant. We have passed it many times and have wanted to give it a shot. We give it a 3 out of 5. First off, the impression on entering to retrieve the take-out was that no one acknowledged me. I kept trying to make eye contact with any of the staff, but they just kept walking past me? It's not a good first impression. We ordered the bread basket, the breads were sub-par, and the paneer naan was over-spiced (never expected so much spice in a paneer naan - they should have added that spice to the food...). The butter chicken had at least day-old chicken in it, and it was rubbery and contained lots of cartilage. The paneer saag was bland and had very little paneer in it. The serving size of the rice was the best part of the meal - the main dish sizes were skimpy! (See photo). We'll be going to our usual spot going forward - the quality of the food here was definitely not worth the price."

"We tried this place for the first time and it was decent. The location of this restaurant is the best! it is located right near the lake and has lots of parking. The service and price are also good. Now lets discuss the food! Food is the main reason people go to a restaurant, and I am sorry to say that the food here is ok! I just did not like it, the food is very bland and lacks taste. Even in bland, its bad bland. The food needs more taste and better flavors. The Kali Dal or Dal Makhani is one of the easy dishes to master and yet the Dal here was awful. We ordered lots of food and only the Chole Kulche were nice, still not that good. If they improve on the taste, this restaurant can become really good."

"Very flavorful food! You can tell top-notch spices are used. Courteous service and reasonable prices. Plan on making it a regular stop when in Edina!"
