Reviews of Travieso
"Best *fancy* restaurant experience we have had. We chose to go a more expensive route, you could make $20-30 work. However, I definitely recommend spending $40-60 per person to experience everything there is to offer here. The food was flavorful and rich, the drinks were adequately strong and sweet, and everything was just presented so well! The server had a great knowledge of the menu and was able to answer all our questions, the bar served us until our table was ready (we arrived 15 minutes before opening), and the atmosphere felt as if we could buy a drink, sit by the fire, and spend an evening soaking up the moment. I honestly don’t have any complaints. We also got a desert, the tres leches trifle. Very delicious. I think the only thing to warn is if you are used to enormous portions and getting two meals for the price of one, this is not the place for you, unless you choose to save some for later. But no, it was amazing, well worth the price. Something everyone within the budget of 40-60 dollars a person should aim to do while you’re in the Waukesha area. We got a reservation at 5, so I cannot tell you what the walk in experience is like, but this is a restaurant you plan for. And plan for having a great meal, paired with a great atmosphere and drinking experience."
"New Waukesha gem! A must try! Brunch was a huge hit! Best Bloody Mary in town hands down. Coffee flights, all the food was plated beautifully and the flavors were so unique and melded so well. Chilaquiles were a table favorite! Brazilian bread was so good. Atmosphere was colorful yet cozy. Service was top notch with Chef Martin stopping by every table to get feedback. Fantastic unique addition to Waukesha! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️"
"Made a reservation for Saturday night. The hostess was absolutely wonderful and the stand out star of the night. Our waitress was sweet but only checked the table once to see if the food was good after not delivering it herself. The espresso martini tasted like I was eating ground up coffee beans, I couldn’t even finish it. It ended up separating before the entrees came out and made it look like oil and water. The other drinks on the menu looked amazing so next time I would stick to the margaritas or mules. I ordered two appetizers- the octopus and the street corn. The octopus was warm and the corn was cold, I think the dishes would’ve been better if that was flipped. The octopus was a little chewy and was drowned out amongst the spices. It almost tasted muddy which ruined the dish for me. It was over powered by over seasoning which made the dish lose any sort of coherent flavor. The corn was average but beautifully presented. For entrees I ordered the skirt steak and the scallops. The steak was served standard medium rare yet it was more medium well done. I found the steak to be incredibly chewy and tough but the potatoes and green beans were okay. The scallops were served over braised pork belly accompanied by pickled onions, carrots and what tasted like kimchi. It felt like Mexico met Asian fusion and not in a good way. The scallops themselves were well cooked just over seasoned and slightly too salty. The entire entree felt like it was too much- the pork kimchi and vegetables on their own would’ve been amazing but adding the scallops and aioli turned it into a mess of flavors that contradicted themselves. The brussel sprouts served with the dish were charred to a point of what I would call burnt. I was unable to chew or swallow them. I didn’t try any dessert however the table next to me was enjoying a Brazilian cheesecake. Overall the ambiance and service was good but the food didn’t hit its mark for me. I think I’ll give Travieso another chance later this year before I make my final judgement but for now everything about it falls just about average for me."
"We met Martin, the chef and owner, when he won at Dumpling Fest. His dish was very good and fantastically interesting, and we were intrigued to learn he had just opened Travieso in Waukesha where we live. Our first dinner was tonight and we will be back. The menus, both food and drink, are very diverse, imaginative, and creative. Martin blends regions and styles in creative ways but without feeling forced or jarring. Can't say enough about it! UPDATE Brunch 9-30-23, first time for this service and it was awesome, very highly recommended."
