"This place seems to be family owned, I've only ever seen the same 2 people working here (and there is a dog). Some people will love the dog and others will be allergic so it's worth pointing out and it's a bit small inside. There is an excellent select of beer and wine. This is the only place I can name where I can find a dry Riesling. The beer selection is very unique and I like that you can mix and match so many different beers and some are on clearance for some reason. Have to deduct a couple stars for the following reasons. When signing up for both their newsletter and their rewards program I never received an email or text, checking in spam folders as well. I wish they offered some sort of bulk discount. I picked out my own 6 pack of beer with a variety of beers while being mindful of the prices but it was still over $25 which is just too high. Some prices for certain items are significantly more than BevMo while others are significantly less. I've gotten into the habit of comparing prices. The location of Holiday Wine Cellar is a bit hard to get to but especially can be difficult coming from certain directions. I once waited 10 minutes at a light that was 100 feet from the store, it was ridiculous. They are closed on Sundays unfortunately. Overall this small business has an excellent selection but is lacking in a working rewards program and some quality control with prices."
"You know... I fit a stereotype where I usually get watched and or not get good service in stores... But Holiday Wine Cellar's employees are always cordial, polite and very knowledgeable! I went there for stouts because I knew they'd have a selection unlike anywhere in North County! I was not wrong. I spent at least 30 minutes looking at the different options. Left with a white chocolate dipped pretzel stout!!! If you're looking for anything out of the ordinary or anything special, go here man!!!!!!"
"Been to this store 100s of times over the several decades, always a good experience- until this time. When I came in the store I was followed around like I was Willie Sutton. If the presence of someone in a wheelchair makes the staff automatically think they are a their they need to get a life. Made me very uncomfortable."
"Unfortunately, my review for Holiday Wine Cellar is low due to a very rude and unprofessional interaction I had with the owner. Prior to going to the store, I went online and noticed that they had two rare bottles in stock (Fortaleza & G4). Understanding that these items are hard to come by I went to the store to purchase them in person rather than online. I am aware many people will used unfair tactics to acquire multiple bottles which leave many customers unable to obtain one including myself. While I was in the store I was able to find the G4 on the shelf however, the Fortaleza was not there. I asked the nice older women if they had the bottle and she kindly went to the back to retrieve one for me. I informed her that I could order online if that was the best method but she informed me that it was ok. During this time the owner proceeds to ring up the purchase and notice my account information. She then proceeded to call me a “Cherry Picker” aloud and state “I am not a loyal customer and only purchase their rare bottle” in a rude and condescending tone. She then expressed how she has been in business for over 19 years and hasn’t seen anything like this. I returned the bottle right after and then received a sarcastic “Thank you” as she walked off. As an Escondido resident, I wonder If she has told others that their account is not deemed a “loyal”? Did she give them the same verbal treatment? Or how many online orders are being filled for true “Cherry Picker” while she talked rudely to in store customers? It’s unfortunate that this was my experience today considering any other time I have gone to the store the staff have been friendly."
"Holiday Wine Cellar is great. They provide an extensive catalog of wine, beer, and spirits. Many rare and interesting finds. The wine socials on the first Wed of every month is a lot of fun. I highly recommend that you check that out. Lastly, the best part is the staff. They are very knowledgeable and friendly. They will bend over backwards to help you. It truly is a great find."
