"Libraries are fast becoming an item of a bygone era with the internet but its spaces still have a lot of potential. The lower floors have lending sections but the archives on the second floor is where the magic is."
"The young man was very nice & went out of his way to help me get my card thank you"
"I've had the opportunity to visit several public libraries around the Bay Area, and while the Oakland Public Library has its merits, there's room for improvement that could truly elevate it to new heights. Firstly, the library's size and amenities fall short when compared to larger libraries like those in San Francisco and San Jose. With only two floors, it struggles to accommodate the diverse needs of downtown Oakland residents and visitors. I believe that expanding the library to seven or nine floors, perhaps with a solar-powered roof, could transform it into a hub of knowledge and community engagement. Expanding its infrastructure would also enable the addition of new features. One floor could house an indoor coffee shop, providing a cozy environment for patrons to read, study, or simply enjoy a cup of coffee. Another floor could host a restaurant, offering both sustenance and a vibrant space for gatherings and events. These additions wouldn't only enhance the library experience but also provide a source of income for the library and the local community. Longer opening hours, akin to those in San Francisco and San Jose, would make the library even more accessible and accommodating to diverse schedules. With these improvements, the Oakland Public Library has the potential to become a focal point for the community, drawing in more people and enhancing the cultural landscape of Oakland. Let's invest in its growth and make it a true gem of the Bay Area."
