Friends recommended Mick's in Santa Cruz where I was and, although the shop was super busy, they took the time to check the codes and found that the fuel was running "lean" but they didn't have time to do further work. Since I was headed to San Jose, other friends suggested Jensen's. They didn't have time to see the car, either, but the person who answered the phone (wish I'd gotten her name), was so knowledgeable and helpful and reassured me about continuing my trip. She checked with another mechanic and confirmed her opinion. I made my whole trip and got home with no problem, and I felt so much more confident thanks to kind, experienced folks at both places."

Well good news, looks like Capitol Honda was lying to me, the plug wasn't stripped. Jensen's was able to just do a normal oil change, no extra hassle or upsell. Saved me $500. Highly recommend.
