"I've never been disappointed with any aspect of the Avenue Cafe. The food is terrific. It's always fresh. Their Chicken Fried Steak is a work of art, and even better if you order a side salad with Balsamic dressing. The gravy on the steak has a sublime unique taste and texture. Also, the Eggs Benedict are the best I've had in Santa Cruz. Don't let appearances fool you. It might look a bit funky, but the staff are friendly and courteous. Give it a try - I guarantee you'll come back for more."

"If you want good food, good service, good homely ambiance in a small cozy setting - this is the place. To top it off - the smile on the two ladies is infectious - you know that they enjoy what they are doing! I cleaned up my plate - not a morsel wasted - and I took a picture to prove it! The French Toast and eggs - cooked to perfection - again I took a picture as proof. The cozy setting - another picture... Next time I'm in Capitola - no guessing needed! Avenue Cafe - fersure!"

"Avenue Cafe, at 427 Capitola Ave. in the Capitola village, is a delightful, gleaming restaurant set in a 100-year-old house. It's located about two blocks from the Capitola Beach. The owner keeps Avenue Cafe spotless, and the shiny yellow walls and charming paned windows give a cheery, inviting appearance. Credit cards are accepted; there is no outdoor seating. Luci N. & I arrived before 9am on a Sunday morning, and before long the little cafe was nearly full. We enjoyed a small bowl of surprisingly appealing fruit, freshly cut, compliments of the owner. We ordered the smoked salmon avocado & eggs benedict ($15), poached eggs on English muffin, with smoked salmon, avocado, Hollandaise sauce. Standard ingredients and assembly, perfectly executed. I'd recommend the Avenue Cafe to anyone interested in a breakfast/brunch spot while in Capitola, and while you're at it, take a walk around and check out the village!"
