"I'm new to town and looking for a nail place, this one was close by and had pretty good reviews, so I gave it a shot. I got there around 4:30 after work, and it was pretty busy--no big deal, I hadn't made an appointment. They called me back and had me soak my hands in acetone for a full half-hour. Never had a gel set removed that way, but okay. Fine. The lady sits down and starts scraping off the gel, cool. I tell her that I've broken a few, so I'd like to even up the length but keep the same almond shape if I can. So she's scraping the gel off, takes a couple more rounds of acetone, and then we're done with that part. Then she asks whether I want round or square shape. I hesitate for a second, and she says "you want the same shape?" and I'm like "yes please! thank you!" And then she proceeds to clip off the tip of the almond--okay, fine, I did ask to take down the length--and then she "shapes" them...and it doesn't look like anything. Certainly not almond, but not really round? or square? just looks awful. And of course I'm trying to be patient, like I'm sure she has her process and we'll get there. But we never do. She asks me to wash my hands, and I'm like, okay fine. I'm just trying to grow them out anyway, keeping that almond shape right now isn't crucial. So I go wash my hands. I've seen folks with these incredible acrylics, all patterned and detailed and gorgeous, so I'm thinking I can't go wrong with a plain black gel. WRONG. I'm telling you, these nails are a MESS. I've attached pictures here--there's black gel all over my nail beds, it looks like I'm dirty, the color doesn't go all the way to the sides of my nails, a MESS. TLDR; the gel mani was only $20, which is cool, but I don't think I'll be going back. I could've shaped them better myself at home, and I would just as soon paint them myself and fix the mistakes with polish remover rather than being stuck with this shoddy job for the next three weeks.
