"Lots of fun, well managed"
"Boy Scout camp adventure for elementary: kids had a great time. Activities were well run. The director was always yelling at the children and adults. The food was terrible, some not cooked all the way."
"We participated in Cub Scout Adventure Camp this past weekend. The highlight of the trip was the camp staffers, the younger staffers who were energetic, happy, and informative. I cannot say the same about the adults. To start, if you have never been to Bovay, the area is beautiful. The camp, however, has not updated the website. Do not attend camp thinking you will take part in the majority of the things listed on the website. The site lists 9 activity type opportunities, and 5 of them are no longer offered. The pool may or may not be offered, depending on whether or not the onsite director wants to deal with it. When we attended the leader meeting, she explained that she would not open the pool because there were too many people. She also said that the only fair way to do this was to have a lottery, but if everyone could not participate, then nobody could. I actually don't disagree, but don't go thinking you may get to enjoy the pool. The director also manipulatively ensured nobody questioned any decisions by preemptively calling anyone who might ask question a "Karen" as she did in our meeting. She used past experiences as examples, calling people "Karen's" because they may have questioned something. It is a great way to keep people from saying anything if something does go wrong. As for the other activities: BMX Bike Track pictured on the website - grown over with grasses. For Bluebell - she mentioned it was not operating or you could go with parent supervision. Dinosaur Dig - not available. Mine: closed. The sports field is open, and it is a minuscule traverse wall and an open field. Kids will have fun, but not much here. They have a Gaga Ball pit- closed according to the director. One of the guys there said we could use it with parent supervision, but like most of the fun things that are advertised, it was closed. The BB Guns and Archery is fun, but the adults are over the top on safety. There is a point at which you aren't trying to keep people safe, you are on a ridiculous power trip because you are an adult and these are kids. It was honestly embarrassing and shameful how kids were treated. And apparently it is all okay because they are "scouts". It was a hugely disappointing weekend and camping experience. Right down to the last minute . . . the previous group left their trash in the bathrooms and it was missed during inspection. We were told it was our responsibility. So in addition to starting in a camping spot with lots of existing trash, we had to take it out as well. I do not recommend this camp. There has to be better run facilities, where the website is up to date, and adults can work with kids without screaming at them."
"I’ve been working here for several years, and I’ve seen this place grow and seen so many happy kids learning and playing here. It’s a great environment for education, outdoor exploration, and family time."
"Kids all had a fun time. Highlander fishing team"
