"The park has wonderful views and even better accommodations. The paths are very well maintained with a plethora of benches and signage. It's very easy to navigate! Additionally, the paths are remarkably clean. When my wife and I go hiking, we always try to pick up whatever trash we can see along the way, but this park seemed to barely have anything built up! I do think something you should know and prepare for should you want to hike is that it can be surprisingly windy. There are several sections where the path leads through a flat area with little to no trees or cover, which can mean fairly intense winds blowing through."
"Beautiful park on McHenry Dam with some very scenic surrounding roads. Benches all along the water. Walking trails. Plenty of wildlife. Bathroom was halfway decent. Lots of parking. Park closes at 8pm (at the time of this post). Would make an excellent destination to ride your motorcycle to, then head over to The Snuggery (also on the water) or Mackey's for a drink and some lunch."
"I recently cycled 25 miles within the park and dam. What a great park, met a gentlemen that worked there and he was very kind and informative. I really like the one way trails, it is very nice not having to worry about meeting a cyclist on a turn. Spent most of the day riding every trail we could find."
"Absolutely beautiful! Definitely worth multiple return visits. There are several picnic benches, benches, and covered seating along the trails. Moderate amount of cars but rarely ran into anyone other than a passing biker. Love that the trails are wide enough to accomodate both hikers/runners and bikers. Most trails are a solid mix of pavement and gravel. Came across a few mowed trails as well. On the 'Return Visit' list for sure!"
"Love the Red Loop Trail - it's roughly 3.75 miles and takes you through a part of the park, with many different elevations throughout and both paved and unpaved pathways. Parts of the trail are secluded in the woods but are also wide open in certain areas, allowing for the breeze to fully encompass the trail. Bring sunscreen as a big part of the trail is spent walking directly under the sun with little to no shade. Have a water bottle on hand! There are multiple restrooms along the path, and also sheds with benches allowing you to sit and rest up on your way. The trail connects to other trails in the park, along with the main road leading into the park. I usually start my hike around the Main office area (Northern Woods) and end there, as there's tons of parking back there. You'll find it to be never too busy, any time you go. Have fun exploring!"
