"This is really the other side of nowhere. You will be isolated. Bring a uhf/vhf 2 way radio with an antenna and know how to use it (repeaters), and you will not be alone. And have water!"
"Traveling all the way to the Solitario Rim at the Uranium Mine Overlook is a very long journey that requires 4x4 high clearance vehicles to get past Tres Papalotes and down to the end of Shut Up Creek below Needle Peak and the Gold Mine complex. It is worth the journey if you ever want to see the Solitario. It is featured in my book "TEXAS BADLANDS: The Ultimate Black and White Journey" (available on Amazon) in Chapter 4 "The Other Side of Nowhere." Be sure and purchase a Big Bend Ranch State Park Topo Map at the park centers for precise navigation of the park GPS is worthless out here."
