Reviews
"Enjoyed a nice quiet walk and learned some history from the area. I used an app on my phone to identify the plants. Benches along wide pea gravel trails. Wheel chair accessible to the long house. Clean Pit toilet."
"Such an amazing site! It helps to tell the history of those who were on the land before us. It could be improved with more site development, and on-site docents, but...that takes money."
"Great family outing. Terrific historical outdoor kiosk. Cleanest public bathroom on earth. Everyone should put the care into their facilities. Well worth a visit and maybe a donation if one’s so inclined"
"It's a nice place to stop and read about the history of this area. On the downside, you need to take a sharp right from the highway and drive on gravel road for over a mile."
"Definitely off the beaten path, Illiniwek Village State Historic Site represents the only known settlement of the Illiniwek (Illinois) peoples within the state of Missouri. A short-ish walking trail takes you around the property, including a couple of dig-sites where evidence of Native American housing, including old post holes, was found. Aside from the cultural history, this area is also alive with wildflowers and signs of animal life abound."
