"Chesapeake Pools used to be an amazing company when Jeff (Dan's brother) was a partner in the business in the 2000s. Jeff left his brother's company, as did their other partner, in early 2014. Ask anyone in the local pool business as to why. You'll be astonished and disgusted. Their current claim of: "Our affordable rates and honest workmanship have made us one of the community’s most trusted swimming pool contractors" was only true when Jeff and the third partner were part of the business. He is using the company's previous reputation to advertise his current company. His business is not BBC accredited and has a 1 star rating. WARNING: DO NOT USE Dan Hackman and his partner Sandy for any of your pool needs, whether it be installing a new pool or servicing an existing one. Jeff, who was honest, hard working, dependable and kind, started his own pool maintenance business(Mid-America Pools), but sadly, Jeff passed a few years ago. The third partner has formed his own pool company and he is also honest and reliable."
"Clearly don't need business. Never returned any of my phonecalls"
"Once he is paid in full via CASH he writes you off & moves on to building new pools as a priority. We live on a hill with a severe property incline & needed a 7ft retaining wall to support the pool & deck. He recommended a friend that he works in tandem with, Acorn Landscaping who for the record is TOP NOTCH! We thought all was smooth until a failed final inspection on our door. Mind you I had asked Dan multiple times for the permit to be posted, Dan brushed it off saying that he keeps on him at all times. Apparently, Dan's team was handed a stop work order on site from the village requiring a STRUCTURAL ENGINEER to sign off on the plans, this was never shared with us as homeowners nor Acorn. Chesapeake submitted "plans" to the Village, but there was no retaining wall, or stairs included. We discovered this upon the failed inspection & when my husband inquired how this error occurred Dan's response was "take it up with your contractor" & said he gave it to Acorn when he received it. Which was a blatant lie, we know this because we demanded the permits & all paperwork be put in our mailbox immediately. In our mailbox was the stop work paperwork with the original permit paperwork. If he handed it over to Acorn why was it in his paperwork? Acorn confirmed never received. Dan closed our pool we then chose to be done with Chesapeake due to his arrogance, tossing blame & not caring to make it right on any level. We had some major financial hurdles to get this project passed with the Village ahead of us & it was now October. Not only had we fully fenced in our backyard which was not a requirement only the pool would have needed to be enclosed. Our original plan was to fence around the pool deck only. Based on thinking we were good with the Village, now were forced to hire a structural engineer to draw plans & had the stress of the possibility of having to tear down a $27,000 retaining wall. We also had to incur more cost with adding fence railing to the pool & stair rail leading to the side of the house. Acorn Landscaping in good faith after being screwed over by Chesapeake on the permit & tossing blame to him, took it upon himself to pay the $200 final inspection fee as well as the structural engineer fees which was in the thousands. When I tell you the owner Andy is amazing, I am not stretching it one bit. He truly is a blessing, easy to work, has a fantastic team & his work is superior...we have since hired him for several other jobs as well. Come April we open our pool we see a softball size "dent" in the deep end wall below the ladder. We immediately contact Chesapeake multiple times. Sandy in their office says she will send someone out & I texted her pictures, after multiple calls they finally come out. Was told this can happen when the concrete base has a pocket "pop" upon settlement and is fixable. Sandy & I agree to wait until it's time to winterize the pool to do the repair since we will need to partially drain the pool anyway. Sandy agreed to split the cost of refilling the pool in the same text timeline. Last Saturday after many unanswered calls a repair guy comes out, his equipment broke & said he would be back later in the day. He never came back. Again, many unanswered calls & voicemails left on when they will be coming for the repair. Yesterday they call my husband while we are both working away from home & say they will be there shortly for the repair, . I got home from work at 4pm & there was a shopvac running to draw the air away from the liner & the pool ¾ drained. We had no idea what was going on, there was NO communication. After several attempts at contacting Dan they tell my husband to fill the pool with water & they will return to finish once the liner sets, this was at 6:40PM.What followed last night in texts was astonishing, disgusting & unacceptable."
"Dan and Sandy were amazing! We have a beautiful pool, the work was done quickly and very well. Thank you Chesapeake Pools."
