"Be careful if you have Dr. Stephanie Miller. She made feel absolutely awful for going to a different ER when I was having terrible back pain and bleeding. I’m around 4 months pregnant right now and I DID NOT know that pregnant women had to go to the labor and delivery part of the hospital here at St. Joseph. She also patronized my husband for asking a question because it’s both of our first time being parents. And she also made me feel incompetent for not doing the prenatal blood work done because she did not give me the information, along with not really explaining to me how the procedure works. She only said “It’s required by law for you to do that” and basically was not supportive at all and made me feel like that I was in the wrong. Oh and for the ER part. The doctor at that emergency room said that I had a UTI and basically glad that I came in and got it taken care of."
"Being a person of color, and used to being brushed off in the past by medical professionals, this practice was a breath of fresh air when receiving care for my first pregnancy. I was high risk due to preexisting conditions and between them and my specialist they did their best to make sure I was cared for. Every receptionist at this location and the Plainfield location were always kind and courteous. Each Doctor and Midwife I saw was incredibly knowledgable and attentive; each taking the time to listen to any concerns and run any related tests if needed. I never felt like just another patient nor did I feel rushed through my appointments. Since I was high risk I also saw MFM located on the L&D floor of the hospital and they too were so sweet and patient with all of my questions. Stephanie Miller, CNM ended up delivering my baby girl after a long induction process, with my baby turning sunny-side up halfway through contractions, she made sure we tried every position possible to get her to flip back and I’m so grateful to her and the nurses on shift that made it possible to deliver her with no complications. They checked in on me postpartum a couple of times and I was pleasantly surprised to know they asked to see me 2 weeks postpartum and then again at 6 weeks. Dr. Gatlin, Dr. Jakvani, Dr. Egan, Stephanie & Christina are amazing and we couldn’t be more appreciative of all of their help in bringing my baby girl home safely."
"I came from a private practice that I been at since I was 16. Dr. Umpai retired and she was wonderful. I came here because of Dr. Fitzgibbon. I went in on November 10th for a pregnancy test. I came back on November 30th for my ultrasound. The front desk lacked communication. They did not explain that I would have to see all three providers until this appointment throughout my pregnancy. On this day they didn't know if I was scheduled for blood work as well. The appointment was not as smooth as I hoped. I was very upset that they didn't explain why I had to see the other providers. Dr. Fitzgibbon is great. I called and spoke with the office manager today who explained it is a liability to not see all three. I asked why the front desk didn't explained that at the first appointment. The office manager said the front desk are not medical professionals. It makes me laugh because then they shouldn't be working in your practice if they have no knowledge of the policies and practices. I'ma first time mom this is all new to me and little explanation goes a long way."
"First let me say that Dr. Fitzgibbons is great. I initially scheduled my prenatal care because I wanted a female OB. She was very thorough and kind. However, I was caught of guard when they told me I'd have to rotate doctors throughout my pregnancy. I wasn't thrilled about it, but when I had my first ultrasound everything went south. The "radiologist" (I'll explain why I put it in quotations) never left the room to give me any privacy whatsoever. It was the most uncomfortable and awkward ultrasound I've ever gotten and after that I just knew I had to switch providers. I spoke to the office manager about the whole ordeal and all she did was excuse the lack of unprofessionalism of the radiologist. After feeling violated, I received a double bill for the ultrasounds, one from the Joliet Women's Center, and one from a radiology center. When I asked why, they told me that "by law" the have to send the ultrasound to a radiologist to have them reviewed, like what?? Don't you have one there?? Apparently either she's not qualified or they just want to bank more money. I was billed over $600 altogether and despite arguing with the billing department and the office manager, I ended up paying for everything. This is my second pregnancy and I have never felt more disappointed in a Dr's care. I've seen 3 different people here and besides Dr. Fitzgibbons, I feel like I've been just a pay day for the other 2. My time in the exam room was longer than the time another doctor and the midwife spent with me. I could probably buy a fetal doppler and hear my baby's heartbeat to make sure sounds good, and I would do exactly the same thing they do but way for free. They have not measured me at all other than my weight. Worst experience ever."
"Joliet Women's Health Center is a great practice. I went to them based on the suggestion of a friend for my first pregnancy. You rotate and see all doctors and the midwife which is nice, they are all very nice based off of my visits. With that being said I truly feel the midwife Stephanie is the hidden gem of the office. She is very knowledgeable and really listens to any and all concerns. I was so happy she ended up delivering my son also. She was very caring, did not rush anything, and worked hard to insure my labor went as close to my birth plan as possible. I'm really grateful for such a beautiful and safe experience."
