Helen Brach Primate House
About the Business
The Helen Brach Primate House, located at 2058-2156 North Cannon Drive in Chicago, Illinois, is a fascinating institution within the zoo that showcases the incredible diversity of primate species from around the world. With ten different species on display, including black howler monkeys and crowned lemurs, guests are able to get up close and personal with these amazing animals.
Originally opened in 1927, the Primate House underwent a $2 million renovation in 1992, which transformed the interior exhibits into more naturalistic environments for the primates. Some exhibit spaces even house multiple species, providing a unique and educational experience for visitors.
In addition to the indoor exhibits, there is a large outdoor space where white-cheeked gibbons can be seen swinging from branches and vines during the warmer months. This outdoor area often captivates onlookers with the agility and grace of these incredible creatures.
Located east of the Park Place Café and south of the AT&T Endangered Species Carousel, the Helen Brach Primate House is a must-visit destination within the zoo. For more information, visitors can contact the administration offices at 2001 North Clark Street or call 312-742-2000.

Reviews
"Another great exhibit. Well maintained and clean with A/C. A real pleasure to view the amazing animals in total comfort."
"The monkeys here are always on the move and fun to watch. They have plenty of ropes to swing from. The large glass viewing areas make it easy to spot the monkeys. The glass windows are also very clean. The informational signage about the monkeys is also interesting."
"The monkeys were super active and I tagged around a school tour. The guide was excellent. I was learning with the kids. Great place for a winter afternoon"
"Interesting primate facility at the zoo which houses several types of monkeys, sloths and other apes in a combined indoor/outdoor facility. The hallways are wide, with very large glass viewing areas that highlight the engaging spaces the species live in. The interior is also quite dimly lit, but it enhances the viewability. While there are steps at both entrances/exits, there are also curved ramps to make it accessible."
"It's pretty cool to see those monkies swinging around. I even got to get this small statue."
