"I have had Essence 2005. never had any problem with them. Always had very good customer service help when I called in. I can't understand why people have so much trouble with it all these negative reviews it's crazy."

"FSA card process is useless none of the OTC items at CVS or Walgreens are approved at Essence you dont know this until your items are declined No one at Essence understands how this is inadequate. Essence sends you a list of approved items the list does not contain brand names again you at the mercy of a declined card. The website only has generic vitamans depends and useless items. Cant wait till open enrollment to get some better insurance."

"You get what you pay for. . . I've had a long history of being an advocate for my very elderly mother with an Essence Dr. who was one of the physicians who started Essence Insurance. Do I file a malpractice lawsuit? Do I file a complaint with the medical association? Do I write a Yelp review warning others of the danger you are in for? I could write a book. Would you do business with a physician who suggests denying very basic medical care so your loved one will die quicker? Then, the same Dr. sends his PA to convince my mom she should deny all medical treatments so she will die. Do you think they are concerned about the patient's best interest or Essence's bottom line? It's not our place to punish people who have hurt family members here on earth. God has a special place in Hell for those. Think! If this insurance costs you nothing, what do you expect to get in return?"

"As long as you don’t need help with anything, I guess things go ok? If you have to rely on customer service, erase any preconceived notions you may have for what “service” is. Trying to locate a provider? It’s easier to google search and call every doctor within the bi-state area to see if they 1) take essence and 2 if they are accepting new patients. Essence can’t keep their website updated with accurate provider contracts and availability. If you have an urgent issue and need to see a primary care doctor as soon as possible and the one they assigned to you is a joke and it was serious enough to file a grievance , well better luck next month! Even though their site says if you need your pcp retroactive call customer service, well that’s misleading. They have to consider it as urgent to make the exception. Their answer always is to go to the ER. If I could afford seeing an ER Dr every month at $120 a pop, I might as well pay more for ACTUAL. insurance!!! Ridiculous"

"My Mother had hip replacement and a glut tendon repair. Essence denied her going to a acute rehab hospital. She cannot get out of bed or use the restroom with out help. She is 86 her Dr appealed and Essence still said no. They said she could go to a I quote “lower level of care” as in a skilled nursing home where there is next to no care. It is all about how much money Essence can keep for themselves. Do not choose this company for insurance they just don’t care."
