"Started coming here after COVID reset my fitness routine. I used to run a lot, but years of running on pavement was and is terrible for the knees, plus it's soooo boring. I experimented with alternatives like F45, Orange Theory, fitness kickboxing, etc, but they all got stale after a while, doing the same similar exercises at different stations over and over again in a cycle, like some dystopian future labor camp, sweating to earn points for food or something. I had no idea I wanted to do martial arts at first. It was by chance that I brought my kids here when my wife wanted to start something to boost their discipline and focus. After watching a class, I ended up wanting to try it out myself. Two years later, I don't see any reason to quit. Karate has a good all around mix of physical benefits. Every time you train, your punches and kicks get stronger and faster; your kata gets snappier and more stable, and your sparring techniques get quicker and less tiring. It's also great for flexibility, which is important in middle-age. When I started I could only do mid-level kicks, but now I can comfortably do some head-level kick combos, which I never thought I could do starting out in my 40s. The dojo is very friendly and laidback atmosphere. I especially appreciate that there are no contracts and if you need to take time off for an injury, work, or travel, you don't have to give some dumb 30 days notice. The teachers here genuinely care about the karate and want to see you improve from it. I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes."
"Eighteen years ago, I started my very first martial art training at the Traditional Karate Center under Sensei Ramon Veras. I was 45-year-old then, and little did I know that this adventure would instill in me not just the skills of karate, but also a better foundation in physical wellness that have stayed with me ever since. I had to pause my training for professional reasons but decide to rejoin the dojo last year. I was delighted to find that the quality and spirit of instruction have remained very high. I am now 63 and eager to continue the journey. The instructors at the traditional Karate Center excel in teaching karate techniques. The physical training is well balanced between cardio, strength, flexibility, coordination, and speed. The instructors pay very good attention to each student, and they ensure that the core skills of karate are mastered (basic katas to advanced sparring techniques if desired). The sense of community here is strong and there's a genuine sense of camaraderie. It's heartening to see that the dojo continues to provide exceptional training and fosters an environment where core values are as important as physical skills."
"I’m 65 and have been taking classes for about a year and a half. Young or older, I highly recommend these classes. From warmups to workout and training it’s all incredible. My fitness and cardio have improved immensely. The exercise has also helped with my weight loss and daily focus. Family or individual, come give it a try!"
"The Traditional Karate Center is a warm and welcoming pace to learn Karate and help you get or stay fit. Sensai Ramon is an excellent and caring instructor, he takes time to nurture each student and help them make progress in their training. When I started I weighed over 230 pounds. Karate has become a primary part of my weight loss and fitness training. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not always easy, but it is well worth the effort."
"Sensei Ramon Veras is an awesome instructor. He will break down movements to show you exactly how it can be used in the real world. He is very patient and very kind."
