"I had high hopes for this University, I was proud and excited to see things happening for the southside, but since I've been working here I have been severely disappointed. As a temp staff member, I've seen full-time employees be petty and deeply unserious about their role here, making disparaging remarks about the students and traditions, only arriving here to collect a paycheck. There is a weakness, spineless, attitude throughout staff to not stand up for doing anything meaningful for the students and the community this institution is supposed to serve. There are staff, who even worse, create roadblocks and gatekeep just so they can collect their paycheck and perform a minimum level of effort. I've seen staff turn down student requests simply because it would be too much work to figure out how to provide a yes instead of a no. Contract agreements that are extraordinarily behind, causing delays for students and faculty from completing the critical work they need to do for the university to be taken as a serious place of learning and research. The Spirit coordinator who bullies the students who actually create the campus culture, and her leadership who do nothing about it. This place is a waste, there are people working here who do not care about San Antonio, do not care about the Southside, do not care about the mission of the University to lift the community out of poverty. There are very few leaders, very few people who are trying to do good, but yes there are some. Unfortunately, the critical mass of people needed to impede everything has far exceeded the required threshold to do so, and they indeed impede at every chance they get. Students and the public: you have a right to ensure public administration workers are earning their paycheck! Deborah Campos Leon makes 71k a year, Patrick Hutchings makes 85k a year, Corrin Le Vasseur makes 122k a year! Continue to hold them accountable, it's our collective duty."
"Not enough class options for students to actually obtain a full time schedule or graduate in a reasonable amount of time. I transferred as a Junior and I have already been here for almost 3 years just to graduate because of the limited amount of course times/ availability to pick from. Not enough parking for the amount of students and staff, yet a sports dedicated building is their primary focus. This school is a joke. NEVER COME HERE AND NEVER SEND YOUR KIDS HERE I SWEAR. SUCH A SCAM."
"TAMUSA needs to conduct more student research and gather feedback because many of the processes are very slow or inefficient. Parking permit distribution is a mess every year, and this year they couldn’t even mail them to us. Lot 2C needs to get repaved because those small rocks have no place in a parking lot, and the parking lines in 2A need to be repainted because they are so faded you can hardly see them. Also very frustrating when there’s a class I need to take and it’s only offered by 1 professor, on 1 set of days, with only 1 time section availability."
"First thing I want to get out of the way is the FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY Although you will see many police parked on the side of every street and corner. There have been many instances of cars getting broken into and parts stolen. In a call I did for an emergency situation, the police never showed up and a student who was passing by at the end of a 10+ minute walk got to me first. Then they had attitude on the phone when they called and I had to tell them i left long ago. You will become very familiar with the police if you are a student only. They are very quick to stop you and cite you but god forbid you have a real emergency. i don't think I've ever met a less caring school about student mental wellness. They're quick and pushing for you to answer surverys and to register. But when it comes to actual services to services you have to be prepared to be sent around calling different numbers they have for very different things. One thing that ruined my first years was when the school would employ students for most of the very important tasks or heavy things like tutoring and desk positions. I've had times where both me and the person that was supposed to help me are confused, but I couldn't even be mad at them because I know they were given a heavy load."
"Have gone multiple times with our son who will graduate during Covid 2020 and before the pandemic hit. Staff for my family and I have always been helpful from pointing parents to the right direction, to asking a simple question like, "Where are the restrooms?" Ring ceremony during Covid was planned out PERFECTLY! We're just so happy our son will break the mold and graduate locally and better his future. More than mom and dad did. I have not one complaint! Thanks!"
