About Us

The Alternative Learning Center (ALC) is located at 1090 Alta Vista Street in Dubuque, Iowa, United States. This school is designed to provide at-risk students with an alternative to the traditional high school setting. The ALC offers courses in core content areas and utilizes project-based learning principles to engage students who may have struggled in a traditional school environment. Independent learning opportunities are available for students to help them recover credits and stay on track for graduation. The program is open to students in 11th or 12th grade who have been identified as at-risk of dropping out and are referred by the administrative team at their home school. "Provides opportunity and located in a location that can give a parent piece of mind knowing their child is safe and within walking distance of both downtown and uptown."
"Honestly a really good school regardless of what anyone says. The staff at that school really do care about there students they are there because they want to be not because they have to be. Every staff member I've met is very caring and aren't always on your case if that makes any sense because there are some teachers or staff members that are always on your case and it can honestly get irritating. But they aren't like that they aren't pushy but yet they motivate you enough to do well without being pushed. I've never had a bad experience there. Honestly if you are debating weather to go here or not I would tell you if you're behind on/in classes or is that person that gets too distracted in a big classroom environment or if your school is too pushy to the point where you don't even want to graduate try going here. Honestly most students there are in the same boat as you and its a great school starts a little later and ends a bit sooner which is actually convenient for some people if you have to work several jobs or if you have kids it gives you a little bit of extra time to do things you need to do and still get your diploma. Good school I hope this program never goes away. Honestly I hope one day Ill be able to go back because I do need now more than ever. Yall are great all the staff and teachers are sweet thank yall."
