Dr. Stephanie Champion, MD

"I started seeing Dr. Champion for my pregnancy in March 2021 at her office located in Atascosita, Texas. I did not have any health issues or complications throughout my pregnancy so all of my visits were easy and pretty quick. However, quickly after I delivered my son, I began to notice immediate signs of postpartum anxiety. On December 31st 2021 I went through a long labor, experienced an allergic reaction, unplanned cesarean section, and my son also had to spend his first few days in the NICU. Attending nurses and physician noticed I was tachycardic and ordered a chest x-ray to configure why my heart rate was so randomly high. Everything seemed fine and baby was well so we were discharged on January 3rd, 2022. The next day at home was physically unbearable and I went to the ER. I tested positive for COVID and was sent back home to get better. I called Dr. Champion's office to reschedule my 2 week postpartum visit and mentioned over the phone how I was feeling (extremely anxious, low energy, faint). They told me it was probably mostly due to the virus and had me come to the office on 1/17/22. Prior to this visit, I messaged the office I was having anxiety and sleep troubles on 1/12/22. I was not able to get through Dr. Champion. Instead the nurse called me back to let me know yet again, what I was going through was "due to COVID or post COVID symptoms." I finally got to see Dr. Champion on 1/17/22, I was tearful and told her my anxiety was really bad that it was affecting my sleep. Having gone through so much trauma plus COVID, these were clear and obvious signs of postpartum anxiety and/or depression. Rather than providing some kind of relief through medicine, she suggested I try talking to counselor. Just to cross it off her list, I immediately sought a counselor but that did not do anything health wise. By the time I was scheduled to see Dr. Champion for my 6 week postpartum, my postpartum issues had gotten mentally and emotionally out of hand. I took the initiative for my well being and went to a different doctor to get help for my postpartum issues. I saw Dr. Champion on 2/24/22 and re-explained myself to her. Crying and clearly in emotional and mental pain, all she could say was "get your toes done", "do something fun for yourself." So much hurt and agony could've been prevented or lessened, had Dr. Champion listened to my concerns the very first time I called for help. I feel that she lacked in her quality of care for my postpartum. She didn't seem to show any care and just she pretty much expressed to me to "ride it out.""

"Dr.Champion was great and very helpful but the reason I gave two stars was the nurse was by far the worst I have ever had. She gave me a room that hadn't not been cleaned yet and never apologized. She never smiled just gave me rude answers any time I said anything. I made a mistake on my paperwork and when she left the room to correct it i could hear her mocking me down the hallway. I probably will not come back or be recommending anyone there."
