"I love when I drop my daughter off at school, there is always at least one teacher outside greeting the kids. When we arrive they have music playing and open the vehicle door to welcome the children. Also, we love that they have staff controlling traffic. My daughter is in second grade and her teacher is very efficient. My daughter likes her current school more than her previous one."
"Some neighbors study here and sometimes I go pick them up."
"I love this place so much because I used to go there in kinder, first second, and third.I used to have a girl and she was the love of my dreams. But the most sad part was I had to leave schools .I promised her that I would never forget her. When I first met her I fell in love with her. Ever since I left that school I never forgot her name and how she looked.I always told her everyday she looked beautiful. To Kaylee M From your first love Charles."
"Adding to my post about the traffic signs below, (I don't recall my original log-in to add to it.) I received this email regarding the outcome of the traffic survey of Candlemeadow and Lyndell Spring on February 23, 2016: "The traffic study report shows the warrants were not satisfied for a multi-way stop signs. Below are the warrants we have to meet. 2B‐6 Multi‐way Stop Signs The "Multi‐way Stop" installation is useful as a safety measure at some locations. It should ordinarily be used only where the volume of traffic on the intersecting roads is approximately equal. A traffic control signal is more satisfactory for an intersection with a heavy volume of traffic. Any of the following conditions may warrant a multi‐way STOP sign installation: 1. Where traffic signals are warranted and urgently needed, the multi‐way stop is an interim measure that can be installed quickly to control traffic while arrangements are being made for the signal installation. 2. An accident problem, as indicated by five or more reported accidents of a type susceptible of correction by a multiway stop installation in a 12‐month period. Such accidents include right and left turn collisions as well as right‐angle collisions. 3. Minimum traffic volumes: a) The total vehicular volume entering the intersection from all approaches must average at least 500 vehicles per hour for any 8 hours of an average day. b) The combined vehicular and pedestrian volume from the minor street or highway must average at least 200 units per hour for the same 8 hours, with an average delay to minor street vehicular traffic of at least 30 seconds per vehicle during the maximum hour. c) But when the 85‐percentile approach speed of the major street traffic exceeds 40 miles per hour, the minimum vehicular volume warrant is 70 perc [sic]" So we do not get the stop sign. If a child, driver, or passenger gets hurt at this intersection, feel free to utilize this information as needed."
"The school itself is 'okay.' My child seems to be happy and she's making good grades. I am however aggravated they have such a horrible traffic problem in the morning and have had (according to the sources previous to my child's attendance) this same problem for many years. The school ignores it and doesn't care how dangerous it is for not only the drivers but for the children crossing the street. If the traffic cop bothers to show (it's truly a hit and a miss), then the experience is tolerable. If the traffic cop does not show up, which is often the case, the drop-off traffic bottlenecks on Candleglenn because they must compete with Candlemeadow (which T's Candleglenn) traffic that has NO stop sign or stop light. Even though it has not been a problem, oddly, this particular school year, normally, there are cars parked along the side of Candlemeadow. So the Candleglenn traffic has to look for a break in traffic from the left and from the right which is constant, all while pulling forward INTO the traffic because of the cars 'parked' in their vision to the right. Keep in mind, they are also pulled up into the CROSSWALK where children cross WITHOUT a crossing guard. So kids have to sometimes cross BEHIND the cars just trying to pull up far enough so they can see the oncoming traffic. Factor in the months when it's still dark at 7AM, school buses that slow traffic even more, cars parked along Candleglenn as well, and cheater cars trying to cut people off (which is not usually a problem but it happens). I am surprised no one has been seriously injured. If you happen to be one of the parents that experience this nightmare in the morning, please feel free to call the city and ask for a street survey. I will be calling back soon to check on the status of my request as well. All we need is one traffic light, or make the 'T' a three-way stop. Then every car will get their safe chance to make the turn and the bottleneck will resolve itself without depending on a city cop that may or may not show up. It seems to me an unpaid stop-sign would help to free-up and utilize the city's patrolling personnel a bit more efficiently. But as it seems, the issue has been a problem for YEARS, is an ignored problem NOW, so it will probably continue to be a problem in the future. I'm very disappointed in the school's lack of concern about a very dangerous student and parent issue. Update 3.23.15 - The traffic was horrible this morning; worse than usual. The traffic cop hasn't been there in weeks. They just don't bother to show up anymore. I will be emailing the principal and if the response isn't satisfactory, I will be contacting the Superintendent."
