"BUYER BEWARE. If you use Stewart Title, just hope you never have to file a title insurance claim. My elderly mother filed a claim on property in Houston. The claim took 8 months to make a settlement offer. During the last 8 months, the claims handler has refused to talk to her on the phone, does not return phone calls and asks for information which is unnecessary or previously given to him. Also, during the 8 months, my mom received an offer to buy her land. We informed the claims handler and he asked for the signed contract. We gave him the signed contract and the survey done on the land to be used in the appraisal. Based on that appraisal, Stewart offered her a settlement of only 15% of Fair market value based on the selling price in the contract. Finally, we filed a complaint on the Stewart title website. It has been 2 weeks, and no one has responded. It appears they are wanting to stall as long as possible and pay a minuscule amount just to make the customer go away. It is despicable that a company like Stewart Title, who has made millions over the last few years cannot even pay a small claim to an elderly lady."

"Dealing with Stewart has been a very frustrating and disappointing experience. My claim and all the backup paperwork was submitted in August, 2022. I was given an adjuster, a claim number, and told that we had a legitimate claim. The adjuster only communicated by email and said they would be in touch. I sent in all the information they asked for. As weeks and months passed, I only heard from them when I emailed them to ask when the claim would be settled. I am 87 years old and communicating by email is hard for me. I asked the adjuster to call me so I could talk to him in person and understand why they were dragging this out. He refused, saying he only used email. When asked if he could give me the number of someone that I could talk to in person, he ignored me saying he could answer my questions. After getting a lawyer to get in touch with them, they finally emailed me with a low ball settlement that in April, 2023 that was based on the value of the land twenty years or more ago. I have been paying taxes on land that I thought was mine and that Stewart Title insured, guaranteeing it was my land, only to find out that insuring with Stewart Title is a big joke! They are raking in the money and not paying claims in an honest and professional way. No one should have to wait nine months to settle a claim when there was no dispute and then not get paid anywhere near what the the land is worth. I would never recommend doing business with a company like Stewart Title."
