About the Business
Artpace San Antonio is a nonprofit residency program located at 445 North Main Avenue in San Antonio, Texas. As an art gallery and museum, we support Texas, national, and international artists in the creation of new art. Our institution recently received a $350,000 grant from the City of San Antonio and Bexar County for a rooftop renovation project. Twice a year, we invite a guest curator to choose three artists to live and create art in San Antonio for two months. We also host events such as Artpace Chalk It Up to engage with artists and curators from around the world. The safety of our staff and guests is our top priority, and we have taken measures to ensure a safe environment. Visitors can easily access Artpace via public transit using VIA Metropolitan Transit. We are supported by various organizations including the National Endowment for the Arts, Texas Commission on the Arts, and the Linda Pace Foundation. "Artpace is a cool little art gallery that’s really fun to wander around in. When we visited, all the gallery spaces were open so there was a good variety of art to explore."
"This is a great little free art museum in San Antonio. You probably won’t spend more than 15 minutes here though."
"It's okay. First time visiting the place. Went to their Friday morning event on the rooftop for donuts and coffee. Climbed up a lot of stairs to get to the top, I found the elevator after I got to the top. Wasn't sure what to do when I got there. No one was greeting people or informing them about the event. Had some flyers and books on a table with the donuts. Only had coffee, no water for non-coffee drinkers. Went inside to see what that was about. The receptionist seemed preoccupied with her phone but was able to tell me where the restrooms were, which were nice. Asked if I could walk around to see the artwork. Receptionist said yes and informed me about more on the 2nd floor. I was able to wonder around with out anyone asking me if I needed help or checking on me. I didn't go into areas that were restricted, but probably could have. Art was interesting. I was able to look at it without a lot of people around. Overall it was ok. Liked sitting outside."
"It was kind of a weird experience. While the art was beautiful and very sophisticated, it didn't feel like much was happening outside of it. You are given two rooms to explore and that's it. I went really slow through the exhibits and it took me approximately 10 minutes to read everything."
"Stumbled across this perfect lil local art museum, and it absolutely made my day! It’s free. The exhibit rooms are stunning. The staff were so kind and friendly. It’s not big or time consuming, but I still loved my time here"
