"With all due respect- we were really excited to try A Taste of the Philippines; as the name itself should automatically encapsulate what they are trying to achieve. We ordered lechon (which tasted alright), lumpia and to my dismay- beef kaldereta. The beef kaldereta was way too tough, very chewy and a cardboard like texture (no flavor)- a few hours in the pressure cooker would surely help. Please put a little bit more effort and love into the items you are serving."
"Ordered Chicken adobo from this location. Portion size is fair (not ideal) for 15 dollars, but Chicago prices are a thing. Chicken is flavorful and tender. The sauce does have its presence, though I was thinking that it was a tad sweeter instead of the umami-sour combination you would expect from a combination of soy sauce and vinegar. The rice is nominally dry, but being doused in the sauce kind of saves things. The peppercorns are bold. Be advised that the dish has an oily texture - if your fingers cannot handle it, best you have a couple napkins on hand."
"I’m not here to bash the store ok, this just an honest review. I apologize in advance. Ok here it is. As a Filipino living in Chicago, I am craving for Filipino food, always so I saw this restaurant and order thru Uber eats. First the pork lechon belly is good however it’s not the kind of lechon I was expecting as I grew up eating lechon, they should’ve change the name to crispy pork belly. The chicken adobo is ok, however the rice that comes with it is not good, super soggy and sticky in Tagalog term it’s “malata”. The rice with lechon belly is also have the soggy sticky texture. And the chicken pancit is ok but not good… I only saw 1 strip of chicken on it, and that’s it.. kinda taste bland too. It can improve though. the Ube cheesecake is to die for!!! I love it.. and my co workers love the lumpia!!! I wasn’t able to take a picture of the lumpia cause I was gone quickly cause it taste so good and the sauce is amazing Don’t discontinue the Ube cheesecake bites and the lumpia cause that amazing. I hope this review help the store to improve the quality of the food they’re serving and continue to serve the tasty good dishes I mention above. More power guys and Salamat po."
"I have been wanting to try the food from @tasteofthephilippines located in the @chifrenchmarket for a very long time. Luckily, I got my chance a couple of weeks ago. The food is so good, you need to try it for yourself! Here's what we ate: Chicken Adobo Longaniza sliders Lumpias Veggie Pancit Ube donuts The Lumpias are so good I could've easily have eaten 2 dozen by myself. The chicken adobo was tender and delicious. The Longaniza sliders were tasty and a treat. I absolutely loved the Vegetable Pancit! I would eat that by itself or as a side dish with another entree. My first time eating ube Donuts, and it sure won't be the last time. They are so delicious and sweet! Kathy the owner is so nice, she even gave us an order that someone cancelled. What a fool, the food is so good! Would love to go back and try the Cebu Lechon and the Ube Cheesecake Bites The menu does fluctuate, so check their instagram often for the daily menu. Right now they are having some specials for #mothersday Get your orders in asap!"
"I order a New Years Eve meal from this place to experience all the dishes that are served. It came with lumpia, pancit, chicken adobo, cebu Lechon, ube donuts, and the owner threw in a longanisa scotch egg for free. Everything was cooked perfectly and was seasoned well. You can tell she puts a lot of love into her food. I was pleased with everything we tried. The ube donuts were delicious, just microwave for a few seconds and they are soft and nicely textured without being overly sweet. The owner is lovely, she kept me updated on my order even though it was made last minute, she followed through and even surprised us. I would recommend this place. It’s located in the French Market in the West Loop. Support this excellent small business."
