Hackney's on Lake

"Been coming here since I was a little kid in the mid 70’s. Family favorite from the days most of our family/extended family lived in Chicago. Burgers and fried onions are fantastic as usual. Atmosphere is top notch, great environment decorated in a classic, old school look. Highly recommend. Never miss when visiting."

"In the past I used to go to Hackney's at least once a month. I haven't been there in years because I moved further away. I had an occasion to go the other day and was a little disappointed. More specifically with the service, in which we waited 15 minutes for our waiter and 30 minutes for our food. I'll get to the point. The onion rings were extremely greasy and the potato skins were very small. The service was abrupt. As I said we waited a long time for service and quite some time after ordering we were informed that they no longer had the soup we had ordered or the vegetables. But what was really annoying was that they brought us vegetables that we didn't order or want. Also, one of our guests ordered a half a sandwich and soup but they didn't have the soup and brought her chips. I will say that the Rubin sandwich and Hamburger were good but that's as far as I will go. The bar was packed with plenty of people drinking."

"The food and atmosphere are good. Our table was served by a young inexperienced waiter so took some time to take the order and bring food and drinks. The overall service nevertheless was good."

"Nothing special. Food isn't great. Onion rings are tasteless. Burger was served on a sliced loaf rather than a bun, which was way too big for the size of the burger patty. Staff were friendly. Atmosphere is non-existent... everyone in there was over 60."

"Hackney's on Lake Street is a northshore classic! They have so many rooms and so much space for eating that it is always easy to stop in here and grab some great homemade food. We had the hamburger as well as reuben sandwich and their french fries were crispy and light. Ofcourse a trip would not be complete without having one of their onion loafs and this one definitely did not disappoint! Great food, great service!"
