Millpond Brewing

"I have had positive experiences here aside from this last visit on Friday, 9/15 in the afternoon. I brought in a Millpond Growler and as I was eyeing the specials above the bar, I could feel the bartender anxiously waiting on my request. I asked if one of the current specials was any good and he replied with, "Yeah but I can't put it in that," pointing to my growler. No problem. I said, "Ok, I just want something light," and he responded, "we have cans and bottles, I don't encourage filling up the growler." I said, "You don't encourage or you don't fill them?" which he answered, "encourage." I explained that I prefer the taste of tap beer over cans and bottles and he said, "the second it hits the growler, the quality goes way down. We don't even sell growlers anymore." So I stared at him for a moment a bit nervously and said, "I still prefer the tap, I am not a fan of bottle/can aftertaste. What do you recommend if I am looking for a light beer?" He gave me a suggestion and I agreed to it. He took the growler reluctantly and I could feel the frustration from him. As he walked away, he rudely asked about a cap (something along the lines, "do you even have a cap?!") which I have never needed in the past (usually, I have gotten a new one each time with the beer name written on the top). He told me that he would need to charge me $2 for the cap. As he walked away, the customer to my left who is sitting at the bar made a joke about how I had struck out multiple times. Needless to say, I walked out feeling really uncomfortable. I am sure the bartender might have been asked to discourage sale of the growler fills so I don't entirely blame him but the interaction could have been better. I have engaged with the same bartender in the past and have not had bad experiences with him so maybe he was having an off day. I don't know. Overall, my experience has been mostly positive with Millpond. Great drinks, generally a good atmosphere and overall positive experiences. Hoping this was a one off experience and I can continue to enjoy Millpond tap beer from the growler."

"I am gonna go out on a ledge and call this the best brewery in my area. I have driven to a lot of breweries in SW Illinois and this one is consistently the best. And great food trucks on the schedule too. It’s in an old gas station from the 40s and they have an awesome side yard. It is often open air on nice days. Great spot"

"First time at Millpond Brewing. Could not have been more impressed ! Took in the Maifest, great band, Freefall. The food ,brat burgers and potatoe pancakes were delicious! Such an outstanding staff and the building itself is awesome. It's a must to visit . We'll be back soon. Thanks to Dan from Freefall for making us feel welcomed. One more item . The citizens of Milstadt are so nice and welcoming!"

"Really cool spot. At the time there were groups dressed up like hippies. Very spacious inside and outside. Right off the main strip. Had a lot of microbrew option along with wine and spirits. Had a good flow there. Chillaxing vibes all around. Worth the trip and would definitely go back!!"
