"Edit: The same canned response from the Spoke, and of course no one has reached out in the last week. Don't believe their response B.S. on these reviews. The one working washing machine just broke, probably never to be fixed like the other 3. You must stay on top of all maintenance requests, constant resubmission and reminders. Lipstick on a pig the apartments are. And for some reason the shoddy plumbing is installed with hot and cold water opposite where it should be. Staff is friendly and location is great."
"I really like this area of town - it is close to fun spots and the river walk. My neighbors have all been pleasant. Chante one of the managers has been helpful to me. You can tell that she cares and wants to make a difference at this community. Small recommendation for a 5 star review would be better upkeep of on-site laundry facilities."
"I lived in one of their 2x2 units starting in December of 2021 and from day one experienced a long, running list of issues with both management and the apartment itself. I was given an 18% rent increase for a unit that I was already paying far too much for given the area, maintenance quality, and condition of the building. While I do not feel as though this apartment is unlivable, I truly hope that this review (and others) encourages Roscoe to lower their pricing on these units. No one should have to pay what these units are listed at for a small apartment with all of these issues, especially on Riverside. The baseboards of the unit were not attached to the floor in many parts, meaning that there are actual gaps where you can reach into neighboring rooms (i.e. the master bed into the guest bed). This also meant there was virtually no privacy throughout the entire unit, as sound traveled very easily and the walls are already quite thin. At night, my roommate could actually hear our neighbor snoring next door. The foundation of my unit, which was on the second floor on the centermost part of the building, was completely shifting. I had pieces of furniture on wheels that would roll away if not supported. Any spills were a nightmare and would quickly run everywhere. The third floor's exterior walkways are nauseating to stand on and the tilt is extremely evident. The foundation shifting also meant that my doorframe was slowly becoming unusable throughout my lease. Currently, my door cannot fully shut without being forcibly locked and has gaps that allow bugs through (which in this building, they are plentiful). Maintenance has came out twice to address this without solution. Pest control, like other reviews have stated, is a nightmare in and of itself. For four days during the peak of summer heat, an entire side of the building's power went out. Our entire fridge of groceries went bad. We were forced to stay with friends with our pets as our unit was completely unlivable without A/C in 100+ degree weather. No accommodations or rent reimbursements were made, and we received barely any communication from management about when our power would return. My experience with the community laundry was incredibly painful. We went three months during the duration of my lease where they were simply unusable because the online payment system had gone down. The management finally allowed for the machines to be free (and therefore usable again), but as it stands now there are only 2 functioning washers and 2 functioning dryers--making laundry scheduling for a complex of 20+ units a bit challenging. Mosquitos had also infested many of the machines during the 3 month down-time and my neighbors voluntarily/unfortunately had to clean them out. I had my laundry stolen twice. Upon move-in, both showers in the unit had such clogged pipes that a standard shower would result in a full bath-tub of standing water. The piping underneath my sink was duct-taped. My unit actually leaked a substantial amount of water into the apartment below. Maintenance would show up at late and odd hours and do the absolute bare minimum to band-aid situations, claiming they'd return to "do the job" at a later date (they didn't). As with most apartments in downtown Austin and on Riverside, there is a considerable homeless community nearby. Most are ambivalent and/or nice, but will sleep and store their belongings in the stairwells or community areas. I probably see someone inside of our dumpsters 1-2x a day. One of my neighbor's cars was stolen out of the parking lot in broad daylight. While gunfire and sirens are an expectable part of your average Riverside experience, do be aware that this building does very little to shield you from the onslaught of wild noises and crime in the neighborhood. All in all, I wouldn't recommend this place, especially at its current pricing. Management needs a lot of work, the building is in poor condition, the units are bug-ridden and poorly maintained, and for the area it just isn't quite worth it."
"**I don't recommend The Spoke & It deserves ZERO stars.** 3rd post: This complex has a variety of dog breeds. One owner's dog bit my girlfriend. The dogs below me are neglected and bark endlessly. If you work from home, this place is not ideal at all. The infrastructure is so old, you can hear any type of noise--especially loud barking dogs. 2nd post: I was told to call the office by the owner below. I called and no one has picked up. Additionally, they charged a $50 fee for lapsed insurance, which isn't true. They stated I had Triple A which isn't correct. I have State Farm and it's not lapsed. I submitted my insurance twice to the ePremium insurance portal that The Spoke utilizes to validate renter's insurance. Still...no affect. As a Resident, I'm having to correct mis-management time and again. I also called the office number listed in the email signature. That number takes you to The Mesh. They told me they couldn't help me. They don't even have the correct number listed on an email signature. 1st post: I have been unimpressed since the beginning. When I moved in, they gave me no instructions for how to get my keys during the pandemic. I had to call and force an answer. When I've had maintenance issues, I used their maintenance request tool, but no one responds to it. I have to call multiple times to force a resolution. I waited for 4 days to finally get someone to fix my A/C. I'm still waiting for my last request (It's been 7 days with no workable bathroom sink). I've called seven (7) times about it. No answer. Left voicemails. No returned calls. When I decided not to renew my lease, I emailed the official email on the website that I won't be renewing only to find out that is not the actual correct email. No one replied so I left a message using their internal contact form. That email is a different email than their website email in the Resident login. How confusing! I went to the office instead. It was locked during business hours (at 10 am). I knocked and knocked. The manager inside didn't want to meet with me due to a meeting. I had to coerce the manager to reply to my email with a confirmation. I cannot tell you how weird it's been dealing with management. You feel like they don't actually want to help, but when pressed, they oblige. Also, your packages will get stolen. I've had two stolen thus far."
"I'm going on a year here at the spoke and have loved every minute of it! As someone who is new to Austin, this community and the management were all very welcoming. Even amidst the pandemic and the winter storm, Spoke still kept a charming, neighborly vibe with laid back residents and responsive management. I personally don't have a car being new to the country but that is not an issue at this location--bus stops, the boardwalk for biking, and grocery stores/restaurants/bars all within 10 minutes walking distance. I feel like this community provides an elevated yet laid-back lifestyle that has truly made me feel a bit of what makes Austin such a gem."
