"This complex uses predatory towing practices. The tow company circles at all time’s looking for cars when this complex is half empty. This is a cheap complex in the middle of nowhere Austin, who is parking here that they need so badly to tow? It seems like they are being predatory against lower income families. $250 to go get your car if you go right away. Stay away from management companies who clearly aren’t interested in the good of the residents."
"We would highly recommend NOT staying at Melrose Trail Apartments. It came time to leave the apartment after the lease ended on 07/07/23 and the staff was extremely rude and highly defensive when we went to them for help and to finalize the move-out. We brought to their attention that there has been black mold growing on the air vents and the manager, Rochelle, blatantly stated that we were lying about calling maintenance to check out black mold right after we had moved in. After being called a liar when there are reports and proof, we left the office and Rochelle gave us a call back to apologize and stated that she did find where I called maintenance to come clean the mold; and maintenance did absolutely nothing but look at it and then left allowing the black mold to worsen and worsen. We went back to the office to try again and they were completely unprofessional and demanded we pay another $1400 during the move out for “fees” to leave the apartment, and Rochelle had the nerve to say that what we showed her on the air vents "was not black mold". As you can see from the photos below, it is undeniable and we had horrible black mold infesting our lungs for the whole year. Our roommate developed a cough bad enough to have to go to the doctors office and get his lungs checked. The black mold is extremely dangerous and not worth your health deteriorating for an over priced terrible apartment complex and the most unprofessional, rude, and unhelpful staff I have ever dealt with in my entire life. Both Angelica and Rochelle were defensive from the moment we walked in the office, uninterested in trying to help the situation, and treated us with disrespect. I would highly recommend staying anywhere else other than melrose trail."
"So far my experience has been great! I’ve been apartment hunting all day and this was my last appointment. When I first arrived I noticed the neighborhood and it gave me a peaceful feeling, I have a baby and his safety is what’s important to me so I like that i feel I can walk around the neighborhood with a grocery store not to far away! The next thing that made an impression is the assistant director Angelica, she was so very helpful and sweet and you could just tell someone who is willing to help you and answer all your questions! She showed me around and had a positive attitude towards my opinion and what I wanted in an apartment community. Over all this place left a great impression!"
"Great place to stay, fantastic location. Maintenance is always quick and professional. However, management is quite terrible. Angelica is unwelcoming and always seems uninterested. Her attitude seems to be that she has something better to do whenever I go to see her. The office never, and I mean NEVER picks up the phone. During the winter storm when the whole complex lost power for 6 days, I requested a break on the late fee, just for one day because I didn't have internet. Management told me I should have walked to HEB and used their internet. Seriously."
"I love this place and ill try to give as much info for my time living here as i can. First I think I'd have less bugs if they caulked floor edges and changed out old windows. Ive seen them changing some windows and not sure if theyre doing it for all apts ...but when the freeze happened there was frost inside the windows. But had bug problems when i moved in. Its not bad now, but if you put in a maintenance req before friday (i think) they will spray your apt every week if you need it. Maintenance has fixed my ac in one day. Came and replaced the entire innards of it. Also I see the reviews of having water cut off during Christmas. I woke up to raining in my kitchen and THANKFULLY the emergency maintenance answered and they cut off the water instantly, before it became a bigger problem. (Upstairs neighbors didn't drip faucets during the freeze) And they had it fixed by the next business day (monday after Christmas). Surprising since idk if they had to call a plumber but I'm sure all of austin needed plumbers. Fixed very quick in spite of circumstances. I felt very safe here. Many late night walks to the heb right next door and no issues or ever feeling scared. That said, i was the person who had to call cops for the SWAT incident. (Side note, if you call 911 here, they will use precious time, if you are having a real emergency, to ask what county you live in. And they had to transfer me with none of the other info i had said to the new 911 operator. In the emergency brain of it, i forgot what county i was in.) It was a bad domestic dispute neighbor was having. And that can happen anywhere. Other then that no issue. Mailboxes were broken into once, they have a security car coming around I've seen sometimes. Never had our car towed. Have to register it. And if you are a guest you have to like text a number and park in certain spots(theres signs up). Even had guests here a short time that didn't register but we were leaving quickly. In walkable distance is heb (small but has all the basics), subway, Sangam restaurant, liquor store, bar woodrows, Starbucks, whataburger, wendys, smoothie place, eyebrow/spa place(they do great work), nails (never went there), and little goodwill. Pools been great, clean everytime I've gone. End of the day, its expensive, but rent everywhere is expensive. If you want to live in north austin, this is one of the more affordable options. Great option for the price. And maintenance usually responds quickly if you need something. Even if its christmas eve."
