"We love coming to the old herald. They have concerts outside in the summer in the new outdoor stage area. One thing we keep coming back for is their Sunday brunch. It’s buffet style and they always have a nice selection of food. They don’t always offer Sunday brunch so make sure you double check before you go. They just opened a holiday pop up bar in their event room. It was fun and I believe it was their first time doing it. I liked the festive drink menu. Something else I need to mention is their onion rings . Usually when I get onion rings from somewhere, I bite into it and the onion slides out of the breading. The onion rings at the old herald don’t do this and they were delicious! Finally, they have a delicious Bloody Mary! I always get one during the horseradish festival. All the workers are very sweet."
"Excellent whiskey and vodka distillery in Collinsville. The Old Herald is their Old Fashioned made with their own bourbon and it is excellent. They also make an Old Fashioned with tequila and it is very good. The Cuban sandwich was great and the burgers are top notch. The loaded fries are also delicious."
"We had a surprise birthday party here Friday night. The staff went above and beyond helping us get the room ready. Ashley was our server for the evening and she was amazing!! We had a large group, but she was friendly and smiling the whole evening. The food was great and the atmosphere exceptional!"
"My evening at Old Herald can only be likened to a journey through the seven circles of Dante's Inferno, with an experience so distressing that it will forever be etched into the annals of gastronomic disappointments. Our saga began when we arrived punctually for our 5:30 reservation, only to be met with utter disarray. Despite being forewarned of our party of nine, the staff exhibited an incomprehensible lack of foresight, attempting to squeeze us into a table with a maximum capacity for six. The blatant disregard for our comfort was not only embarrassing but also an indicator of the tumultuous night that lay ahead. We attempted to rectify the situation, requesting the addition of another table or an alternative seating arrangement. Our plea, however, fell on deaf ears. The obstinate hostess, apparently lacking the customer service ethos fundamental to the hospitality industry, not only refused our reasonable request but also denied us the opportunity to speak to a manager. This initial altercation set the tone for the evening, as the restaurant's cacophonous ambiance swallowed our indignation. As if playing a cruel joke on our waning patience, we were left to languish for over ninety agonizing minutes before our food arrived, shattering any remnants of our good humor. Every aspect of service was a stark testament to gross incompetence; drinks remained parched, silverware elusive, and orders mangled beyond recognition. The salads we ordered, envisioned with rich blue cheese dressing, were instead littered with blue cheese crumbles. A minor blunder, one might argue, but it proved indicative of the culinary horrors to follow. The Mediterranean wrap, promised as a symphony of flavors, was instead a somber dirge of endless spinach. The boneless chicken wings, hyped as a crowd favorite, were an abominable pastiche of excessive breading with traces of meat seemingly added as an afterthought. But the culinary atrocities didn’t stop there. The French dip was served colder than the restaurant's empathy towards its patrons, and the pretzels, presumably intended to warm our spirits, were frigid and uninspired. Each bite was a testament to the kitchen’s lack of care and attention to detail, transforming what should have been a joyous meal into an ordeal of tasteless torment. As we sought solace in spirits, we were met with yet another hurdle. Despite repeated requests, our beers arrived slower than the progress of continental drift. This incompetence was then echoed in the appalling state of the bathrooms, a sight too horrifying to put into words. I attach pictures for the morbidly curious, but viewer discretion is advised. In the midst of this culinary travesty, we attempted to seek solace in the much-touted "jumbo wings." But, alas, this was yet another cruel jest played by the restaurant's abysmal kitchen. These so-called "jumbo" wings were, in fact, the antithesis of their namesake. With a size so minuscule, they resembled more of a poor sparrow's than a chicken's. They were the smallest wings I've ever had the misfortune to encounter in my gastronomic adventures. The audacity to label them as 'jumbo' added insult to injury, serving as a stark reminder of the night's multitude of misleading promises and blatant disregard for truth in advertising. This, combined with the other indignities we suffered, sealed the verdict on our night. It was nothing short of a poorly orchestrated farce, a gross perversion of what dining out should be. I implore anyone considering a visit to reconsider, unless one has an inordinate fondness for disappointment and microscopic "jumbo" wings. Our night at this restaurant was an assault on all senses, and not in a good way. It was a symphony of discord, a spectacle of utter disregard for customer satisfaction, and a glaring example of how not to run a restaurant. I cannot in good faith recommend this establishment to anyone unless they wish to subject themselves to a grueling test of patience and culinary fortitude."
