"I liked living here. The apartments are spacious and reasonably priced. I had the redesigned interior and it was quite nice. My floor plan was the Bowie and I quite liked the Den. However, I didn't like the management. When time came for renewal, I was paying ~1550/month, and the renewal offer was 1610/month. Now, at the time (May 2023) they were asking for less (roughly 1500-1550) for a new lease on the same floor plan apartment. I talked to management about this, and they said..."well you can move into the new apartment, for the lower price. Anyways, that's how ridiculous they were. They would rather I take the time to move out of my apartment, and into the same floor plan/interior and then they would clean my old apartment and get it ready for a new tenant instead of just letting me stay without raising my rent. Due to that, I ended up moving elsewhere. I recently checked the rent at MAA, and I saw it was now 1375/month for a Bowie floorplan with a redesigned interior. So, jokes on them I guess. Long story short, if you move here, you should plan on moving out in a year. Management will go out of their way to make it financially painful for you to stay."
"I do want to preface that I do currently live here and have had a decent 4 star experience!! But am worried for potential residents and how much they’re really caring for the more worn/old apartments and hope management looks into that more especially what they are considering “move in ready”. This is an older property so more care needs to be placed in it This is more so just a warning for anyone who looks at these apartments to really look at all the details! Currently these are photos of the main bathroom of unit 121213 where we were looking to transfer to from a one bedroom and the thought that this complex kept saying it’s move in ready was quite the yikes for us! They did not pay attention to a lot of details that I wished I would’ve taken photos of but these were pretty shocking. We walked by this apartment often and saw that the previous residents weren’t the cleanest so I think that takes extra care and effort to revamp the place from management to put in that effort. There is mushrooms growing out of the wall and I saw many base boards in this unit that had water damage and I’m quite sure there is most likely a mold issue that I would hope they don’t just repaint over to “not spend the money on it” I personally have education on fungi and with this growing out of the walls there is definitely a mycelium colony in the walls and mold and who knows how deep that runs in the walls so that’s most definitely a health hazard. Also now looking at other reviews I didn’t realize this was a more common issue than I realized at this complex of mold issues. While I do live here and for my current unit all has been well I do worry that depending on prior residents and wanting to get people moved in ASAP that they are not really considering the full rounded health for someone new to move in. I think the lack of education of mold/fungi also showed since one of the agents did state that the mushrooms probably were there because it had been vacant for a bit, which again (since I’ve studied this) I know this isn’t accurate and just scary for any other units who may be having this issue! Hope they see this and do a better job at looking at units deeply and checking for mold levels. Also this unit had a really strong fish/seafood offputting smell coming from the cabinets and dishwasher which again, interesting since they said it was move in ready. Hope this is just a reminder to both potential residents to look closely at everything! And if you see something weird (mushrooms growing out of walls) or smell something weird and the leasing agent still doesn’t seem concerned I would probably choose another unit!"
"This complex appeared to be excellent when I read the reviews/toured but unfortunately I'm not too happy here. The main reason is that it's next to a wooded area (which looks beautiful) but unfortunately this means roaches. These are the most massive roaches I have ever seen in my life and they somehow always find their way into my apartment. It's so disgusting when you wake up to find a roach in your bed. I've talked to management about it multiple times, but they just give me the runaround (typical corporation). This is not a cheap complex... I recommend looking elsewhere."
"Do you have any plans to remedy the recycling bin dilemma? I don't even live here & its embarrassing. Get an extra bin? Have them pick it up more often? The only solution I can help with is to bring recycling to my own place, since we can't even catch the bin empty enough to add our own recycling in."
"MAA Western Oaks is an expansive (31 buildings), gated, apartment community in southwest Austin. It has two outdoor pools and a very good sized gym workout room. Rent is in line with Austin rents, but reasonable given what you get. The pools have deck chairs, barbeques, and even an air conditioned clubhouse with pool table, shuffle board, TV and full size fridge and countertop. All apartments are key code electronic entry (no physical key to lose!) with deadbolt locks. These are nice safety features, but the surrounding area is a good area of Austin and very safe."
