"Do not book this hotel! I reserved my room over a month before arriving. I luckily just happened to call to check on my reservation and they notified me that it had been cancelled and could not provide me a reason. This is days before I was planning to arrive. They will cancel you if you lock in a decent rate and make room for last minute higher priced bookings."
"The rooms were well appointed and used the square footage well, they felt large. We had two rooms, one king suite on the third floor (which gives you extra high ceilings and an extra powder room and a fully separate living room with kitchenette and bedroom ) and a king room on the 9th floor. The king room had enough seating in a living area for 4 people, a small dining table, and plenty of closet space. For one person it was perfect. The view from the 9th floor was over the pool and in February the room had a direct view of the sunset. Both rooms had portable Bluetooth speakers that worked well! I appreciated the temperature specific shower handles. A large bathtub in the suite was also perfect. The optional and automated morning and evening light and curtain settings were perfect. The elevators were fast and valet was fast. There were only a couple negatives and it all related to valet/service. If you’re used to staying in Four Seasons and Aman resorts then my review might be applicable to you. If not, then you probably won’t be as picky as I have become when it comes to service, so you can skip right past knowing that this hotel was excellent. The service here let us down a bit, but the manager contacted us upon checkout after receiving an email review with my concerns. I appreciate how they plan to address some of the things that happened (valet adjusting Ferrari settings to race mode and removing traction control- even after I asked them not to). The team there will now have a supercar specific program, only certain valet will touch supercars and it goes without saying that no driving settings will be changed. The manager seemed to really understand the safety issue and lack of professionalism shown so I’m confident it will be addressed. Another valet instance when I was left disappointed was when I asked valet to retrieve a shopping bag from the car and remove the empty bottles from the car the valet (a puzzlingly long time later) arrived to the room without the shopping bag but one of the two items from the bag in their hand. Valet had emptied out the contents of our shopping bag to use on their own - but they didn’t completely empty the bag. A brand new clothing item was thrown away by valet. Luckily I had no sentimental attachment to this particular bag or brand new item, but it still bothered me to have my new clothes thrown away especially after I asked for the whole bag and its contents to be brought up to me. A friend of ours, also staying at the hotel, sat down for breakfast right at 0700, no host was there, and when the host did arrive he insisted that the seated guest stand up and meet him at the host table before being seated again. It was bizarre to witness. These sort of things are kinks to be worked out in their service training. I’d definitely stay again because of the feedback from the manager. I think this pool is preferable to Four Seasons’ pool and I think the food is comparable at both places. I like this block over the block that the Four Seasons is on. The entrance and space at the Four Seasons is better because it removes you from the hustle and bustle of a busy street. The service you receive at Four Seasons is still superior as of right now, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that during my next stay at Austin Proper I’ll update this review to say it’s a true 5-star experience."
"I initially used to visit JW downtown during my trips to Austin, but after it recently started becoming overcrowded, I decided to give Austin Proper a try, and I am very glad that I did! The hotel has so many great restaurants, the staff are so welcoming, and the spa as well as gym are very luxurious. I also rented a Tesla for a night, which was something really unique that I haven't done at any other hotel. I’m glad I made the choice to upgrade after my first night because the suite I stayed in was very nice and open, with beautiful views of Austin’s downtown. The rooms are all decorated very nicely, and it’s clear that they invested heavily in design and technology. I would highly recommend and will definitely be coming back!"
"My favorite hotel in Austin. Everything about this hotel is elevated. The service is excellent. The rooms are a great balance of modern, leaning towards swanky, but still warm. The restaurant and bar options are delicious- love Peacock and main bar is a vibe. The spa was an enjoyable and relaxing experience. Not a cheap stay by any means, however, this is the type of property where you get what you pay for. Overall, a feather in the cap!"
"My family and I recently had the pleasure of dining at Proper Austin on Christmas Eve, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm welcome and seated promptly by the attentive staff. The service provided by Shea, our server, was nothing short of superb. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure that our dining experience was top-notch. She patiently answered all our questions, made excellent recommendations, and ensured that our glasses were never empty. Now, let's talk about the food. The menu at Proper Austin offers a delightful variety of options, and each dish we ordered was a true culinary masterpiece. From the appetizers to the main course and dessert, every bite was bursting with flavor and expertly prepared. The presentation was also impeccable, showcasing the chef's attention to detail. Overall, our experience at Proper Austin exceeded our expectations."
