"We stayed in what they call the lodge, not the motel. I doubt there's any difference between the two. You do not stay here for the room. You stay here for the location, which is absolutely unbeatable and you will love it. That said, our room was large but dingy. The room was dirty, with "stuff" on the dresser top and in drawers and somebody's long hair was throughout. I wouldn't walk on the carpet without shoes. The beds were old but surprisingly comfortable. Views were incredible. The restaurant/bar was okay, but I recommend you bring plenty of your own food. The room has a microwave and mini fridge."
"As many have said- the facilities are dated, but very charming. I’d much rather stay in a place like this in the mountains than a modern Hilton or something. Rooms are CLEAN as a whistle, and have very cool balconies with good views. Restaurant attached is decent, but quite pricey for anything but a simple burger or chicken sandwich. I wouldn’t recommend the high dollar dishes ($25+). Portions are somewhat modest. This place is well worth the price- you’re smack dab in the middle of the park- have everything you need within a 30-second walk, and the views are beautiful. Noteworthy details- Verizon had cell signal- US cellular didn’t No TV’s, phones, or Wifi- except at the restaurant/gift shop area. - it’s better this way."
"Great location, old buildings, if you’re on the first floor you will hear every single foot step from the upper floor. It’s okay it usually quiets down around 9:30pm. Beautiful skies and great staff. Quick access to some of the best trail heads in the park."
"We did not stay here but we did have dinner here after a long hike. The building is definitely in rough shape which is why they are closing down for a complete rebuild. The food wasn’t great, I had a chicken Alfredo meal which had an oily separated sauce served over overcooked chicken. They ran out of onion rings so only half of our group could get them. The service was okay, our server was pleasant. It is very nice to be able to get a bite to eat and a cold beer after a long day hiking in Big Bend and I look forward to coming back after the rebuild."
"Finding a room at the lodge is difficult but it is highly recommended to stay within the park as it takes at least 30-40 minutes to find the nearest accommodation. Also the phone signal is a hit or miss in the park, so please don’t rely on doing any online business while you are here unless you are at the restaurant near lodge which has free wi-if. Do not expect comfy beds as the lodge is old and needs complete renovation, but the staff is doing great to keep it up and running with what they have."
