Sands Motel 805 East Broadway, Van Horn, TX 79855

"I first arrived looks like the place is closed there's no one in the parking lot I come to the office. There's no one in the office. The manager on duty comes out of one of the rooms without a uniform on in plain clothes. Granted he was very pleasant and nice but was really surprised. I come to the door of our room. The key works but the door doesn't open multiple multiple tries come to find out the door handles broken. The manager comes over and fixes it temporarily and says it should work for the time we're here and they will put it on the work order for the next maintenance round. We get into the room and I look around there's no smoke detector it's missing. I look for a plug for a phone or Electronics there's none available not even behind all the furniture. I stripped down the bed and come to see red spots on the bed and hair on the inner sheets. We go to take a shower run the hot water for about 5 minutes or more and finally get enough hot water to come out to take a shower. Just really disappointed and I could not believe the conditions. I was trying to give a local hotel my business to support local businesses. Unfortunately this is what you get sometimes when you support a local business that is failing. I'm really hoping I can hear from the owner or someone responsible for the deplorable conditions of these hotel rooms. Would love to have an explanation on why and maybe promise the better experience next time we come by"

"Definitely not worth $78 a night. There were no plugs to plug any of your stuff into. If you want to plug anything in, you had to plug it in by the refrigerator or the TV. No plugs near the nightstands. No plugs in the bathroom. AC fan speed could not be adjusted. The room looked like it hadn't been remodeled in about 40 years. If you need a place to sleep it's okay. Its very low quality. Don't expect much other than a place to sleep. People giving this place, five stars must have really stayed in some dumps if they think this is five stars. That or they're friends or relatives of the owners."

"A wonderful experience for the price. Staff is friendly and helpful. Building is older but well maintained. Rooms are clean. A budget motel with only the necessary amenities but absolutely will make it a point to stop here again."

"We called ahead to let the front desk know we'd arrive past 1 am and they were accommodating. The property itself is nothing to look at, but for the price it's decent. The room included a mini fridge, microwave, and small desk/table. The ac/heater was noisy and the controls didn't function. I had to just shut it off. Unfortunately there were not enough wall plugs to accommodate charging your electronics. There was one multi use outlet and they had the fridge, tv, microwave and air freshener plugged in. I very much disliked that one switch controlled 2 lights. One in the bathroom/shower area and one in the sink area. I wanted to leave a nightlight because I didn't want my mom to trip, but it was impossible to sleep with those lights on. The nicest thing was the room was spacious and pet friendly."

"For an ultra low budget stay, I am impressed. The place is located right off I10, and given its well populated the place doesn’t feel unsafe. Lots of parking and truck parking places nearby. Checking in of my online reservation was easy and standard. The room is surprisingly spacious and sparkling clean, and decently sound proof. There are microwave, fridge, small AC and a lovely bar desk good for computer work although I wish there were more outlets. The bathroom is old with lots of wear n tear but usable and well stocked. To me the most important thing was hot shower, and this place has it. Overall, I’d say this is the best among similar tier places."
