"Hancock House is in a great location in Louisville. Very walkable. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again!"
"I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately we had a terrible experience here and would never stay here again. The heat did not work in our first room. At one point during the day, the temperature inside was in the 50s -- I imagine it was even colder at night as it was in the low 30s during our stay. We texted management first, as advised. After receiving no response for several hours, we called. They said they would try and find someone to fix it, but provided no guidance on whether they would be able to fix it that day or if they would do anything to provide different accommodations. After the phone call, they finally acknowledged our text message and said that they would try and send someone to fix it. We asked if they could just move us to another room and reiterated that we wanted to know the timeline for resolving the issue, especially as it was New Years Eve and were worried that people would be going offline for the holiday. They did finally move us to another room; however, the communication was poor and caused a lot of stress, which distracted from our vacation. Instead of enjoying the city, we were trying to make alternative plans in case Hancock did not resolve the heating issue since again, there was minimal communication about what they would do to make sure we had heat. This stress was exacerbated because we were traveling with a small senior dog whom we could not leave behind in an unheated living space. We ended up taking her in the car constantly because it was warmer leaving her behind in the car for short periods after blasting the heat than it was leaving her in the room. If we were in a home rental situation, Hancock would have been required to make rental concessions for the lack of heat. However, they did nothing to compensate us for the issue. The second apartment they moved us to was out of body wash. It also appeared that the floor had not been vacuumed much as my dog kept finding things to eat on the living room floor. The place looks nice, but there are serious issues with cleanliness and service. Stay far away!"
"Location was good and the room was very nice. I was not happy with the services provided however. Most Airbnb have the basics—this did not. No garbage bags, one dishwasher soap, no sponge or dish towels. 4 small saucepans and no other pans. We had to borrow a fry pan to make breakfast from friends in another Airbnb. 4 keurig pods and one towel each for three people and a 4 day stay. None of the “helpful things” left by previous travelers in most Airbnbs like salt and pepper or oil or other spices. Bathroom soap was out when we arrived and I contacted the host — it was filled but the next day the conditioner ran out, so the cleaner came and filled the soap but didn’t bother to check the other two dispensers. We had to beg them for a garbage bag and then they refused to give us a sponge. Not a bad place, but it is the little things you expect when you are on a 4 day vacation and not staying in a hotel. No one wants to fully furnish an Airbnb on a short trip."
"I wish 0 stars was an option. In my over 20 years of traveling domestically and internationally, I have never experienced such inefficiency. Upon check-in our first room was an ice box. After fiddling with thermostat for 20 minutes we had to contact the "Director" Christine Smallwood. She advised that she would contact an HVAC tech and we should continue with our evening plans. When the tech couldn't fix the problem we were moved to another room. It took hours to receive new building and room codes. After spending a day on the Bourbon Trail I was afraid those codes wouldn't work and we would be without a room. We continued to experience problems in our new room as the toilet wouldn't flush. The bathroom was also filthy with hair and dust everywhere and the shower shelf near collapse. After repeated texts to the number we were finally told a plumber was en route. In the interim I was forced to use the bathroom at the hotel across the street. How embarrassing!!!! All of these issues did not prevent housekeeping from promptly showing up to the room at 11am. Throughout all of the communication Christine was very quick to tell me that "She is feeding her kids," "She does not work on Sunday" For my troubles, I was promised a $75 credit. It took 3 days and several texts to receive an updated statement. Bottom line, location is the only thing this property has in its favor. AVOID AVOID AVOID and save yourself the headache."
"The Seafood Lady restaurant on the first floor turns into some sort of club at night. They started playing the LOUDEST music between 7:00 - 8:00 PM until after midnight. We first thought it was a neighbor playing loud music, but after about 15 minutes the bass started rattling the walls. Our room was on the 3rd floor and we traced the music to downstairs. We called the after hours number to complain and the guy said the restaurant has parties at night. If you want to get to bed before midnight, do not stay here."
