Reviews
"Phenomenal and humbling experience. I strongly recommend anyone go. Unfortunately, we are quickly losing our remaining World War II veterans. This was a very educational, interesting, and fun exhibit. Highly recommend for anyone and even more so for families."
"This is an awesome museum. We originally planned to be there for just a couple of hours but were there for 4 and could have spent at least a couple more hours. We didn’t realize there was a snack bar there or we probably would have stayed longer. We parked at the beach and had to use an app to pay the parking meter. There is a parking lot close by that you can pay $5 for all day. That would be better. There are a lot of videos through out the ship that tell different historical events. You can watch a 3D movie- it’s cold in the theater so be prepared. Lots of photo opportunities for the kids. Volunteers and workers there all very nice. I think there is a shuttle that will take you up the ramp to the entrance. We were not offered a ride."
"Was super cool to visit this while on our trip from Denver to Corpus Christi. The self guided tours are perfect and there is so much to see. Loved the fact you could still see the captains quarters, where the ropes were kept and the different planes that used that carrier in its prime. The gift shop had tons to choose from. Picked up a few coins while we were there. It's absolutely beautiful at night all lit up as well. Got engaged right next to it with its illuminating blue lights in the background!"
"I've been a History WWII buff for years, and it was such a thrill to be able to spend the night on the 'Blue Ghost' (as a chaperone to my daughter's high school band). Noel and Chris were awesome, friendly hosts that added tons of fun to our stay. You have to go and listen to Noel's ghost story! We were allowed to roam the ship on self guided tours. The hosts helped police the kids with a little PT punishment. The ship is huge, so be prepared to be exhausted after all the climbing and roaming. If you get to camp on the Lex, the breakfasts and dinners aren't bad. They don't serve sodas, so if you want one, bring your own from one of the vending machines on ship. Otherwise, they have a decent snack bar if you're a day visitor. The gift shop was full of nifty items and gift ideas from dog tags, key chains, and books to USS Lexington t-shirts. For aviation fans, there are several WW2 to more modern aircraft on board on the flight deck and hanger. There is a flight simulator and a flight type ride for $5 and $20, respectively. Overall, it was a really fun experience!"
"What a cool experience! Did you know they have the fighter jet on there from the movie top gun! You get to walk the halls of the lower decks and sit in the captains chair how cool is that! I have to say it is 100% worth it to go and it isn’t very expensive either. They do have a cafe there and we did eat at it but it isn’t the best I’ve had to say the least but it helped in a pinch. They have a gift shop too so that’s fun to go get a memory from there. The best part of the whole experience was meeting the volunteers that worked there. If you’re willing to take the time and just ask questions and listen to their stories, this is the last generation that will be able to one on one in person, hear the stories from the people that experienced all of this wonderful history firsthand. Two of the gentlemen were aboard the ship when it was active and what stories they could tell. We met a man named Bill and talk to him for so long, and I believe it was very impactful. Very interesting. I asked him how it felt serving in Vietnam, and if he was scared. His response was it was a job and we were tougher back then and boy was he right."
