"We've been going here regularly for 6 years now. Always good food and good service. It's fun when there's a band. I generally get a half oyster half shrimp poboy and my husband likes the gumbo and etouffee. They're muffalettas are good too. It's not as good as NOLA, but it is as good as it gets in Austin and we always leave happy."
"I love evangelines so much! We even went there for prom dinner so many years ago! Great food! Great atmosphere! Great place!!!"
"I was excited that I stumbled across some authentic Lousiania cuisine in Austin. Evangeline's is a neat Cajun inspired restaurant. The owner is actually from Louisiana. He was extremely nice and down- to-earth. He actually came out of the back once we put our order in. He said I had to come out and see who ordered this. He assumed we were from Lousiana, but I explained to him that I've spent a significant amount of time in Lousiana, and I really appreciate and enjoy both Cajun and Creole cuisine. Evangeline's has quite the menu, which I'm never mad about. I love options. As an appetizer, I order gator bites. My daughter had never tried gator, so I wanted to see if she would like it. She did! I also ordered the stuffed pistolette (not pictured) as an appetizer. They were both delicious. The gator was nice and tender and came with aioli sauce. For her entree, she went simple and ordered a combo plate with grilled shrimp basket, fried oysters, and french fries. I ordered Speedy's Catfish with Crawfish Macque Choux over rice. My food was gmvwry good. It felt like a home cooked meal vs. a restaurant. My daughter said her food was good as well. Really wish we'd visited during crawfish season. That would ha e been a treat for sure. The owner came back by before we left and graciously offered us his famous bread pudding for free. We're no stranger to southern hospitality, and that's exactly what we received at Evangeline's."
"The atmosphere was awesome & the service was good. Our server may have been busier than usual so we weren’t too bothered having to ask for multiple things. The food tonight though was really disappointing. Based on a Google list of “best gumbo” in Austin, we decided to try this again after a mediocre lunch visit about a year ago. We started with the Shrimp Contraband appetizer which was good ( the Oyster Contraband was just ok) so we were hopeful .However, the chicken & sausage gumbo as well as the seafood gumbo had a burnt taste making it impossible to eat. Great spot to hang out and maybe have a drink but lunch & dinner are overpriced and overrated."
"Cool music, the food is OK, too salty and not spicy enough. The big problem is that the menu lists crawfish etouffe at $17.99, but the computer rings it up at $19.99. Could be an accident, but either way customers are being overcharged. You can see the temporary adjustment made to my receipt."
