"A GEM filled with local historical resources, assets & stories that show the important place in our nation's history that Newburyport has held. Really amazing. Visit Bethany the director and schedule a tour. Her passion brings to life a fascinating understanding, connection and relevance of Newburyport to the rest of the world. So many national influencers and leaders originated, passed through or lived here."
"This museum is a hidden gem, and the people who run it and give tours are fantastic! It’s a must stop for anyone bringing guests through town who want to learn about this area, anyone who wants to learn about the roots of this community, and for history fans. Memberships are very reasonable as well. A very special place, five stars!"
"Such a great little gem of a museum. It does a great job of telling the history of the region as well as the people (and characters) that shaped our community in an engaging way. The special events often sell out - don't miss the annual garden tour!"
"We are so lucky in Newbury/Newburyport to have this amazing resource and to be able to research the history of our own old homes and also this place. I especially love "Tombstone Tuesdays" and getting a close personal insight into some of the character of the early residents. We loved our tour of the museum. We know how lucky we are to have wonderful local historians and all they bring to the Museum of Old Newbury experience. So many people who's families go way back inspire those who come from anywhere else to be curious and to really cherish this beautiful place we call home!"
"I toured the Museum of Old Newbury back in June. This was is a fun and family-friendly excursion. The Cushing House is open Thursday through Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m during the regular season of the first Thursday in June through the Sunday of the first full weekend in October. The cost for a guided tour is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for youth, and free for both members and residents of the “Old Newbury” towns. Tickets can be purchased in advance on the museum website or in person at the door. Tours are currently limited to ten people, so call ahead if your group is larger. I noticed that tours do not appear to follow a script and must vary widely depending on the guide. Like most historic houses, this museum is not accessible to those with limited mobility. The outdoor section of the museum is free and open to the public between dawn and dusk. Parking for the museum is free on High Street and Fruit Street. I greatly enjoyed my time at the museum and look forward to visiting the gardens again in the future when the weather is less sporadic."
