"The Uptown has the best location in town, conveniently situated near the bus terminal and within a walkable distance from campus. The one-bedroom apartment we rented is spacious, recently renovated, and all amenities are in perfect working order. It's worth noting that if you opt for a level 1 unit, be aware that it's a basement, and as a result, natural sunlight may be limited compared to units on higher floors. Additionally, the walls are somewhat thin, so you might hear noise from neighboring apartments. On the positive side, the management is very helpful and responsive, addressing any concerns promptly. Overall, we highly recommend Uptown for its location and the price and quality relationship."
"I've been living in the apartment for less than a year. The location is great, very close to the campus and most restaurants. The AC system works well, and there is on-site laundry at low cost. The only issue I have is the super small closet, other than that, I am happy with the apartment."
"Uptown has been a great place to live for the past two years. It provides a quiet, clean atmosphere—important for a law student who studies at home. The building is dog-friendly! Although I occasionally hear some barking when walking in the hallway, I rarely hear anything inside my apartment, so my pup and I live and study in peace. The insulation seems very good. I don’t hear much noise from neighbors or from outside—except when an ambulance or fire engine passes. I’ve never heard any noise inside the building coming from the restaurant patrons. The location is excellent. Walking to campus takes only around seven minutes. And the best bars & restaurants in Bloomington are even closer! Although parking is not included, the location is worth the small hassle of finding a nearby parking space. The lobby has a locking door. Residents enter a passcode to enter. The utilities have been just fine. My heating/cooling bills seem much lower than other commenters claim to have been receiving in their apartments. The electric bill may rise above $100 for a month or two in the winter, but I pay around $40 per month the rest of the year. Each floor has a laundry room with two washers and two driers. The machines are clean. Washing and drying a full load currently costs around $3. Management just renovated the cabinets and installed new appliances. Although I admit that the old water heater had its problems, the new water heater makes more than enough of very hot water for at least three consecutive long showers. Overall, management has been very kind and responsive. Although we’ve had issues with the lobby door and the trash compactor, management has promptly responded, dispatching someone to fix them very quickly."
"Positives: Great location! I had a nice leisurely walk to campus every day. Super close to downtown and restaurants, which allows you to feel connected to the city. Also very high ceilings and laundry on every floor. All of my interactions with management were totally professional. Not so positives: The building and appliances are very old, which will be reflected in your power bill. Mine was usually about $100 per month. The water heater in my apartment provided between 5 and 10 minutes of hot water and absolutely no more. There is no parking. If you have a car you will have to separately purchase a parking space from the city for a garage which is about a 10 minute walk from the building. If you live on the second floor you will hear the restaurant and club downstairs at all hours. This may also be true of the other floors. Most importantly: If you consider living here be sure to read your lease especially carefully before signing. Notice that there are clauses in the lease that say you are the one who must pay for carpet cleaning and painting upon move-out regardless of condition. Though we worked hard to leave the apartment undamaged and cleaner than when we moved in, management kept $400 from my deposit. You should also know that around August 2018 in response to a buildup of negative Google reviews, Deer Park Management offered residents $50 on their account to leave a five-star review. Just something to keep in mind when reading these reviews."
"I lived in the Uptown Apartments for the last 3 years while in a graduate program at IU. I had a lovely experience with the apartment building and management company. The apartment building has a secured front door with a code for residents, which makes it nice and safe. And I can’t say enough about the convenience of its location. Seriously walking distance from everything in town. I never had an issue with any other residents either. Everyone was courteous and, with few exceptions, quiet. The real shining stars though are the management company and maintenance team. Every time I had so much as a light bulb out maintenance was at my apartment fixing the issue within an hour. And the management team was probably the most responsive group of individuals I’ve ever communicated with repeatedly. All of the ladies in the office are always kind, clear, and thorough. They are also extremely accessible in the office during business hours. I really would recommend the Uptown Apartments to a friend, especially considering that they are one of the most reasonably priced buildings on Kirkwood. 4.5 stars for now (reserving half a star for a post-security deposit update)."
