Banneker Community Center

"Attended a birthday party for a 13 year old grandchild and their friends and family. It was held in the gym. The facility was very clean and the bathrooms were spotless. We all had a great time. Very nice community center!"

"Zero stars. I came here because Parks and recreation has been promoting a beach day splash and play. Only one employee could tell me where it was located others had no idea about it. When I found the area on my own it was very unwelcoming to my children and I. As to the area of play it is very janky looking (picture and video in review) as well the water needs refreshing the sand needs refilling (I would have done it myself but the water holes were off as well as any sprinklers they claim to have. I wondered around the building thinking this can't be it & nope none of the staff sitting at the table underneath the only shade did not come and assist. As this place is supposed to serve the community and has the stamp as a historical African American site it is surely. being under-served. Other parks and recreation places in Bloomington look great, they are surely not giving this place any time, attention nor money. 2nd encounter I was able to stop a lady who cleaned and refreshed the area (still janky) the pool had holes in it so no water stayed in. The woman had left the permissions shortly after so I had to cut on the hose myself and refill (cut it off when we left) On the way to the car I was stopped by an employee that obviously didn't know about the beach day either as well as when I started to change my 2 small children in the car out of their wet clothes my car was constantly looked inside and walked near by the employees sitting at the table that never assisted me in the first place. It may be good and fun for the camp kids as they probably only have this option. As to me this place can use some up keeping, loving and better resources and equipment even their basketballs have patches. SHAME ON PARK AND RECREATION.The Banneker Center deserves better like every other park and recreation places here in Bloomington."

"Kids have been coming to banneker for all their elementary years, camp/ after school programs / events… you name it. the staff are very involved and make personal connections with the students. friendly environment, dedicated, and always take their groups of kids on daily field trips. very exciting for the kiddos"

"This is a hidden gem in Bloomington. As a SAHM, I'm always looking for places to take my toddler. The BCC's third floor is dedicated towards a play space for young children. Much of the toys seem worn but the space is very open and clean. We arrived right after the morning rush so the place was a little disorganized. My son did end up enjoying himself and even made a few friends later on."
