"One day before I was supposed to arrive in Birmingham I was notified by the Sales Director that my reservation was cancelled due to overbooking. Being. Marriott Bonvoy member my reservation is supposed to be guaranteed. When I tried to reach the Sales Director to make sure she made other accommodations at a nearby Marriott hotel she refused to talk to me at first. When I finally got a hold of her and she assured me that my reservation was made and would be paid for by Marriott. When I arrived and checked in this was not the case. I was charged in full and when the Operations manager reached to the management staff at the Courtyard to receive their information they were rude to her and never provided their credit card information. The customer service I have received from the staff at Courtyard Marriott is the worst I have ever received. They all need to go through some HR training for how to deliver good customer service."
"The staff here gets 5 stars. The hotel itself gets 3 so I made it 4 for an average. I was in town for a loved one's final days. I am from Birmingham so this is home for me. Liz, the operations manager was the first employee I saw and she greeted me and made me feel so welcome. I met the manager Jamel he is new to this location (he's been here a week?). I shared my story with him and he took the time to talk to me about his experiences. Sophia, the night auditor was simply amazing. I brought a few issues to her attention one night and she promptly resolved each one. She's truly one of the best customer service people I've ever encountered. Jamel, Chantel, and Liz all went out of their way to buy me a sympathy card. They left a basket of fruit and snacks on my bed. The employees are really fantastic!! As for the room, it's not the staff's fault but the sink was running muddy water because of construction nearby, the security lock on my door was loose (it was fixed the next morning after I told Sophia about it), and my phone in my room just doesn't work (an issue with the line itself). So while I had some issues (the Internet went out one night for about 2 hours also), the employees here saved the day. I'll take the small inconveniences all day if there are people working who care and work to keep you happy. You will be treated really well here and I will stay here again. Thank you Jamel and staff for taking such great care of me!!"
"Our stay started on 1/18/2024 and we checked out on 1/25/2024. 1) Noticed the old low-style toilet as we entered the room. Flushed once before we left the room and noticed that it drained slowly. We just assumed it was normal for an old toilet. But once we returned to the room and flushed again it overflowed. Thanks to the onsite maintenance guy, he plunged it, and the issue was resolved. We continued to hold down the flush lever until the entire tank emptied to prevent another overflow. 2)We brought back food to stock the refrigerator, but my wife had to clean a few stands of hair out of it first. 3)The patio had a heavy accumulation of dirt on it as if it may not be a part of the cleaning routine. It was accompanied by a nice collection of leaves. So we did not use the patio. I was looking forward to smoking one of my cigars while having a glass of bourbon. 3)The bedroom A/C Heat unit could use a good vacuum cleaning at the front face. The collection of dust is very visible. 4)The hotel appears to be doing renovations. We were told our room had been updated. They must have forgotten to replace the old foggy windows in the bedroom. )Last but not least, my wife pulled the piece of furniture that had rollers on it away from the wall. The furniture appears to be suitable for sitting your suitcase on...well, behind it on the floor was a pair of women underwear. We left it there and my wife reported this as we checked out. There you have it :)"
"I got a great last minute deal, and when I got there it was abundantly clear why I got that deal. The entire place was under renovation. Front desk staff were rude and more concerned about scrolling through their phones than engaging with guests. I guess they gave me the short straw, and was placed in one of the rooms yet to be remodeled that smelled like a crime scene. Maybe it will be better after the remodel, but the staff needs some HR training. I had planned on staying here regularly now that I'm in Hoover monthly, but I found and have since stayed in an airbnb for the same price which has all the comforts of home."
"I like the location of this hotel so I have stayed here quite a few times in recent years, but it has been in desperate need of remodeling for a while. During my recent stay I discovered that the project is finally under way. They put me in a remodeled room that was very nice (by Courtyard by Marriott standards) and some of the common areas were upgraded as well. Some areas are still being worked on. (Jan 2024)"
